Steering

Can changing skis affect steering. Just changed my pilots to sly dogs and it feels like I'm trying to steer a 2M sled? Just curios. Looks like I will be transferring some weight off the front.

yes changing skis can make huge differences , its one of the main reasons folks swicth to after market ski's
to alter the steering they had on current ski's
so will the amount of carbide, type of carbide on ski's

and also, when you switched ski's
NOT sure what sled you have, but some have the ability to make ski stance wider or narrower a little depending how you mount the ski's back onto sled
so maybe you installed them in a narrow position over a wider one?

I have a 2011 gade 1200 and don't think I can narrow or widen it. Steering was fine with the Pilots, I just wanted to get the Sly Dogs as they match the my wrap better; an "American Flag" wrap and the skis are the stars and stripes. Bet you can't tell I'm a vet, lol. Waiting on the windshield graphics, "Duty, Honor, Country."

That would be worthy of a picture or two.

I'll try and get some but don't hold your breath. I'm 6 generations past all this electronic stuff----I have to get my 7 year old grandson to teach me how to work my cell fone when it goes bonkers, lol.

It’s a nice wrap! Seen it many times. Chuck easiest thing to do is harden up your center shock a click see how the gade handles if still too heavy click harder again. I’m a Yammy guy so not sure of the doo transfer adjustments but ski pressure is mainly center shock and limiter strap on my older doo.

Not sure if it would apply in your case but when I switched to Sly Dog Powder Hounds on my Summit (Rev) I ended up shimming the skis and going with a really short carbide (4" I think). It did help with the steering effort on the trail and made them more predictable.

Cool skis though, mine had a skull & cross bones graphic, which really improved my riding ability.

You will never improve on 6.9 Pilots on a 1200. One of the best ski designs ever.
