Summer vacation-Mackinaw City/U.P.

Our family draws from a hat to see where we are going to vacation each summer. I've considered putting in the northwoods a couple of times but have never done it, (my selection has never been drawn anyway).
Is there enough activity in the Mackinaw City area to keep eleven people ranging from 5 years old to 74 years old busy/happy for four nights and five days? Fishing could be a possibility for some, maybe some golfing, laying on a beach. Is there lots of tourism type activities? We wouldn't be opposed to crossing into the U.P. either. Thanks for your input.

There is plenty to do there for that time. You will want to include the fort, the Island and St. Ignace. Michigan travel centers will mail you tons of information.

A trip over to the Island for a day would be a must.
Short drive away and you're at the Soo Locks. Or Taquamenon Falls. Or Whitefish Point and the Shipwreck Museum.
From Mackinaw City, all in the same day without driving far, you could swim in 3 of the 5 great lakes.
The Mystery Spot is cool for the kids.

I vacationed here for the last 3 summer vacations. Awesome area to see. Tons to do within a 50 mile radius. You can message me with any specific questions if you want.

There is Oswalds Bear Ranch in Newberry if I remeber right. That is close to the falls mentioned above. There is the snowmobile museum in Naubinway and a Zoo, not to mention the miles and miles of the Sandy North shore of Lake Michigan in between Naubinway and the Bridge. I don't think five days is enough to do it all. I have gone there for summer vacations more than once and still want to go back. You can spend a whole day at the Soo with the Locks, Valley Camp Museum, and many boat tours. There is also a smaller waterpark in Mackinaw city if it is still open. We have rented jet skis. There is plenty to do!

If you include the Soo Locks, then you can cross the boarder and ride the train into the Agawa Canyon, that takes a whole day alone, cool ride. The Taq Falls are close, like mentioned above, and the bear ranch is ok if you can get past the disgusting piles of rotting meat in the summer heat. Mackinaw Island is a whole day for everyone. The fort is right there. Looks like you can keep everyone busy for a the days you need.

There was a waterpark (outdoor) I believe it was called Thunder Falls, it was closed this year, don't know if it was temporary, or for sale, or what the deal is. I do know they have an indoor waterpark/hotel that may be worth checking out for the kids as well, located on the lakeshore, so swim the lake during the day & slide away at night.-Mezz

Waterpark is torn down. As others have mentioned, there is plenty to do and see. Before you know it, the five days will be gone.
