Sunken Sled

My buddy put his sled through the ice the other night. He shut it off before it went under. They got it out and wondering where to start and what to do? Obviously they have to drain everything but anyone else have any ideas? They got it into a heated garage as soon as it got out so it didnt freeze. It is a 2015 Skidoo mxz 600 sport

My buddy did the same thing last year with his 16 renegade 800. We got it into heated garage and drained everything and tore everything apart basically down to motor and frame. And I mean everything besides tearing motor apart which we Probly should have done. Filled everything up enough to start so we cranked it over and it blew water out of top of cylinders and fried a coil. So gota b careful when u go to crank it over. Dealership didn't have an extra coil so he had to end his trip early. It still had 13% on break in on it when it went down. He took it to dealer he bought it from and they tore everything apart again ref lashed the break in. Everything runs fine now.

You literally have to take everything off to try and drain it and dry it best u can. Oil tank we just siphoned out and dried all the corners by rolling and stuffing paper towels in there. It's a pain in the arse but Probly a lot cheaper than taking it to dealer. Depends on how in depth he wants to get with it!

I know someone is going to say it so let me be the first. It was a Ski Doo, leave it at the bottom. Just joking, I hope for the best turnout of a bad situation.

My brother used to do the watercross thing so we got to pull sleds out of the drink more than once. It was pretty simple, we'd pull the exhaust, pull the airbox, pull the plugs. tip it on its side and pull it over until water quit coming out of the jugs. Then we'd dump a little oil in each cylinder and pull it over a time or two, then after draining the exhaust and airbox we'd install them and the plugs and it would usually fire right back up. Could do it in 10-15minutes and be back out there.

We used to ride our Polaris 4 wheelers in shallow rivers. Every so often, like every trip, we would drown one. Drag it out, take out the plug(s), tip it over and drain out the water. Then use the electric start to spin the motor for a couple of minutes. Put in new plug(s) and they would fire right back up. Not that big of a deal on those. About the same as elf. Nowadays way more electronics to get hurt. Plus of course the seats are a big sponge and will take about a year to dry out all the way. Personally I would not buy a sled if I knew it had been drowned. Just too much stuff to go wrong down the road even if you do get it running right away.

My brother-in-law put his RX-1 in the Cisco Chain a couple of years ago during Christmas week. The sled was in the water for 4-5 hours before we could get it out. Main concern was getting him to a place to warm up because he went in with it. After the sled was out and several oil changes and a new seat, the only thing that didn't come back was the tach.
