Thats our main place. I'm a big fan of this place. Great parking, good price, easy trail access, gets a little choppy as it's not groomed but it only about a 2 minute ride to the main trail over the bridge. Has a pool, sauna and hot tub. Typical Super 8, not high end but clean, and enough space for all your gear. Breakfast is included but nothing special, rolls, bagles, toast, ceral, fruit and make your own waffles. Wi-fi and in town but not really walking distance to main downtown spots. If you need to impress someone not sure you'll do it here, but if you want a comfortable spot that gives you the ability to ride north or south this provides you all that with a good value. We used to always book lake view rooms on the first floor so we could park our sleds right outside our window, but last year they didn't let you ride between the motel and the lake so save the $4 a night and get a room on the parking lot side.
("supper" 8? Who's cooking supper at 8?)

Ye gods, back in my college days (late 1950s/early 1960s) I yoosta walk from the East end of the MTU campus (DHH) to the theaters in Houghton (The Lode) and in Hancock (The Pic)! … Often in a blizzard, through three feet of snow, and uphill all the way (both ways).
(Oh, sorry — that's when they still yoosta have snow up dere in da winter too!)

Well I guess I should have said, "while it's in town, us over 50 guys tend to take the truck the 8 blocks or so to downtown for dinner or whatever" Thats if we can drag our butts out of the hot tub after riding all day
garyl62: Of course ya know I was just pullin' yer leg … fifty+ years later it would be a challenge for me to hike the half mile from da Super 8 to the Suomi Home Bakery & Restaurant in Houghton, with my constant companion, "Mr. Art Ritis"! (Golden Years, bah humbug; more like "Rusty Years"!)

got a room the 27th threw the 30th, if anybody is up there in that time frame would like to hook up and do some ridding there are 4 of us going up let me know, i have never riddin past rockland before and would like to get to know the area, forest roads play areas.

Glad it worked out for you, tell them you got feedback from the site before making your reservation. We're coming up as your leaving, checking in late on the 30th for 4 nights.

Slimcake, if you want to hook up and tag along its just fine with me, allways nice to meet new faces. we will be up sunday threw tuesday posibly wednsday as well, im not sure what room were syaing in as my bud made the resorvasions but pm me your number and we can hook up otherwise look for a black ford f150 witha arctic cat sticker on theback window. i would like to hit some logging roads and do a little exploring up there.

Parents are staying there (at the Super 8 right now) - nothing special (although I think they are both sort of sick of hotels at the moment), but looked like a pretty good continental breakfast and tons of room for parking.

That's where I stay when in Houghton. Basic but works well. Americinn in Calumet is my prefered choice! Ramada is also okay.
