Well after some careful thinking I have decided to go 4stroke Yamaha.I currently ride an 05
sabercat I do nothing but trail ride.I love the sabercats ride and performance.I am thinking about getting a Apex GT or Apex LTX. They say the Ltx Hooks up better than the GT But i do not want to give up turning ability in the corners. What do you think i will be gaining and losing if i pull the trigger on this.Any opinions from people who have made the switch would be appreciated . thanks

If you just trail ride what about the Vector. I did ride one and really did like the motor. They only problem the leg room seems to be a little cramped for me. But really did like riding a vector and thats coming from a 800 xp.

In today's world with direct injected 2-strokes available now from Doo and soon Poo and Arctic Cat, 4-strokes are heavy dinosaurs.

Remember, sleds used to have 4-strokes decades ago back in the 50s and 60s and went two strokes for weight and performance advantages. The same holds true today.

Do you have a buddy who has one to test ride?? I didn't, and was really wish washy about buying one. Been with doos for a long time now and really like em. With that said, I do not notice the weight that much if any on my attak. Neither does my buddy who is doo all the way. I sometimes think if it was any lighter it would be unperdictable with all that power. I do not regreat the switch at all. But I am not ruling out a 4 stroke doo either. I just haven't got a chance to ride one yet so that will probably be the next once I get a chance to ride one. Might just stick with yammy also.

Have 07 Attack GT so I would say 136 better handling than Apex 121 have good seat time on 121 too. 5000 miles + no problems with Attack to date. Vector LTX good sled too. Rode new doo GSX 4tek with heated seat & adjustable airshock 137 track & handled well. Don't have seat time on 4s Cats but supposed to be good too.

4s hookup better with longer tracks lots of grunt & midrange pull. if you buy Yam the 136 sleds ride & handle better in my opinion. Lots of rumors Apex will have power steering in 2011 & be 128 & 144 tracks release date Feb 2nd. When I was riding 100 miles are so thru Twistys yesterday I was thinking about power steering & wondering why the heck I would need it on a Yamaha Attack? Just wait & ride one I guess then will have comparison. Who knows the future maybe all OEMS will have power steering soon.

Yea I know what you are saying about the power steering. I got lucky and guy I bought my attak from knew what he was doing and set it up good. Switched to slydogs and revalved the shock along with stretching it to 144". I my self see no reason for power steering, but with that said they sure say power steering really changed the world of 4 wheelers also so we will see. I just would like to see how much weight if any that yammy managed to loose. And if they made it any more powerful also. Doesn't really matter a whole lot to me because I don't have to funds to buy anything new anyways so it will be 2015 or so before I am buying an 2011 anyways.

dab102999: The Yam Apex 2011 rumors power steering, the simular body type, 128 or 144 not floating my boat to upgrade. The hard details weight, HP, turbo, new 4 or 3 banger engine will have to wait for release. Nothing at all wrong with my Attack so upgrading on what we think not happening for me either. So far...........:<)

Wow thanks for all the feedback i was thinking about test riding a Z1 do they make them without the turbo really do not need all that many horses.

It does not matter how many studs you put in a 121 Apex - there is too much torque down low and it will never hook up. Spin spin spin. It you go with the longer rendition of the Apex they can be made to hook up much better. Of course they get even heavier the longer you go. However they can be made to turn just fine on trails. Whitedust pretty much has the combination down with the Bergstrom triplepoints. Yami has always done well with masking the weight on their 4's. Really the only time they feel heavy is when they are stuck. This is true of all the new tin however. If I were you I would go out and ride as much of the newer stuff as you can. Ride all of the above stated sleds if you can. The longer the better. 3 minutes isn't much of a test. If the new 2 smoke tech holds up over time I would surely think it would be an option. If they can get some working wind protection on the Rush and some of the others with the tiny windshields that would also help. Tis the season to try stuff out.

Hey Grub:
I was cussing the Attack yesterday got stuck in 20 inches of crusty junk & had to shovel the sugar snow for about an hour. SUCKED!! I was calling it the beast during the stuck but then hit the Lake & Trail in luv again. lol.

Saber 1: Yes cat does have 130 non turbo 4s & supposed to be a sweet ride but I don't know no seat time on one.

saber 1 i have a 2007 F600 2 S 120 hp. Little under powered not bad. Wish it had 10-15 hp more. Z1 seems about right hp. Rides and handle great.

I don't know why anyone would consider a 2 stroke any more . All I read on this web site is 2 stroke failures. I have not seen any thing about Yamaha's engine blowing up or burning down. Do they make the best riding machine,No, but you can ride and not wait for it to come out of the shop. Which means more to me aless then perfect ride or no ride at all. You can answer that.

Because for my needs, a 4-stroke has zero advantages and many disadvantages. For the record, my two strokes have been gas (and oil) and go, never had an engine problem in 39 years of riding.

4-stroke scitomas are bad.

I have had twin 2 strokes, triple 2 strokes, and now a 4 stroke yamaha. I wouldn't go back. I save a lot of money in fuel and oil. It cost half as much as an older 2 stroke.

I own two 4 stroke Yamaha's I love them both but be prepared if anything breaks, costly to repair. Just this past week had to change plugs on 1 and then 2 days later the starter bolts sheered off. I know these breakdowns don't sound like much but just about everything has to be pulled to get to the plugs and as for the starter well lets just say I'm glad I have a hoist for the motor because the ENTIRE puppy has to be pulled and one of the parts is on backorder. (it's on a slow boat from Japan)
Again I love my Yammy 4 strokes and to get the lower operating costs along with the lack of complaints from the wife and kids about the 2 stroke smell it's worth the few problems I have encountered.
