OK peeps< I did it. Got the new networked receiver and Blu-Ray player hooked up.

So, I can now play content from my smartphone to the receiver using bluetooth, pretty cool. I have my music loaded to the Amazon Cloud player, so there's pretty much music at my fingertips. The receiver is hooked to the network so I get internet radio, and the Blu-Ray player is also on the network so I can get video and audio there.

If any of you have worked with this stuff before, here's a couple of questions-

Why doesn't my laptop recognize the receiver on the network? Shouldn't I be able to send laptop content to the receiver using the network?

What exactly is the correct address for an internet radio station? Why is it that I put in the address for a station I am listening to on my pc, but the receiver doesn't recognize it? Where do I find a list of these stations without using a third party service like Radio Time?

The whole project worked out real good. No more cds or flash drives, everything is smartphone/internet driven. Took a while to get it all hooked up, and I still have a LOT of setup to do, but all in all a good project. The sound is great, Pioneeer VSX31 through a Bose speaker system with powered subwoofer. Everything goes to the box, box goes to the internet.

I'm sure glad Al Gore invented this internets thing!

What??? What is all that stuff? You mean my Betamax is obsolete?

How is the receiver connected to the network? Is it hardwired or wireless?
You say that your phone connects to the receiver via bluetooth. Here's what I found on Pioneers web site for the VSX-31...

"For wireless connectivity, add a Pioneer AS-BT100 Bluetooth adapter (sold separately) to release your music from your iPhone, iPad®, Blackberry®, or Android® smartphone as well as other Bluetooth-enabled sources like laptops. And the VSX-31's Advanced Sound Retriever AIR restores critical audio data that is often removed from compressed audio formats, especially when transferred via Bluetooth."

sounds like it's all via bluetooth.

Do you have the AS-BT100 adapter? If so, is your laptop bluetooth capable?

If so, you'll need to put the adapter in discovery mode and set your bluetooth enabled laptop to search for it. If not, you'll need a bluetooth adapter for your computer.

If all else fails, call Al. :p

Check your firewall, I have the problem that if my aftermarket ( norton, defender etc) is turned on it blocks the computer from "allowing" or seeing other things on the network. Try to turn off the firewall and search the network again and see if it works. If so you have to read the firewall instructions on how to add the device as a safe item to use it with the firewall on.

Well, it appears that the receiver does not work as an item on a network, like a printer. The only thing the network part of the receiver does is to go out and get internet radio stations.

The Bluetooth works fine for audio, both my smartphone and my laptop play to the receiver. But apparently there is not enough bandwidth for video.

So, I guess I will get video the old fashioned way and will just plug the laptop into the receiver directly.

Thanks for the suggestions!
