I have the freestyle tekvest and wouldn't ride without one. I have been using one for 4 years now and feel uncomfortable if I don't have it on. With sleddin the "what if" just seems not like a "if" it will happen but a "when" it will happen, even if it's just something extremely minor. Once you wear one you'll never go back.

I started wearing mine (TekVest) about 8 or so seasons ago.......felt weird first ride or 2......now I feel "nekkid" if I don't wear it (which is like NEVER).........PLUS if you happen to have a windkini (which I do, never bothered to change it) it helps keep your torso warm as well.........

Least bulky is sixsixone with spine protection which I wear with a back thing. Sixsixone is only tekvest I know that breath. I would never ride without protection. sixsixone sizing runs a little small so buy 1 size larger.... Plenty of vests out there so do a search. You should know that ridget vests will not allow you to duck branches....the only downside.lol :)

Mine is the tekrider tekvest. There was a special offered through johndee several years ago,it was a nice discount (cannot remember which business offered it.) I feel it doesn't limit my mobility much and provides some insulation.

that looks pefect..and 1/3 the price..im mainly looking to protect vitals if i do something stupid..especially at 90..and want to be able to move

thanks
The stock belt helps holds the vest in place but I wrap a back thing around it to protect my organs from bounce shock. Make sure you buy the core protector with spine protection... really good spinal cord protection but that picture does not allow to rotate to the back to see it. Does the job without being wrapped in rigid plastic & breaths so moisture can pass thru clothing layers.

i've been riding for almost 40 years and never wore one and never saw the need too.
Same with all my buds I ride with.

You guys are lucky... I have been hit with falling branches, thrown studs, ice balls & a couple of offs in my years of riding. Sleds of the 90s were bucking broncos difficult to hang onto at times. Newer vintage sleds are very forgiving but the guy coming at you on your side of the trail not so much. To each his own but a little protection keeps the ribs intact if nothing else.

I don't leave home without mine. I feel naked without it, been wearing it for several years. After open heart surgery last year it is extra protection.

Had a breathable one that goes underneath coat. WAY too hot for me. Drenched in sweat, even on short rides. Thinking about getting one that goes on the outside of coat. I hear Tekvest brand also provides floatation in case of a water landing. Does anyone know more about the floatation aspects on any of the existing vests?

I have both types but the one I wear the most know is my Evo as it also protects my elbows and arms also.

By the way even my old leather Poo suit had shoulder pads and arm protection....

We (wife and I) have been wearing them for years just because I thought it was a good idea, and agree with the many comments above, after a few rides you get completely comfortable wearing it and now its just part of riding gear, that adds a little warmth and when sized correctly, you can snug it up tight and helps support the ole back.

We had a little incident last year that really made me a believer and Tek-Vest advocate: The wife and I were up in the UP zipping up trail 3 north of Bruce Crossing where the trail at times is a road, and then wow, a logging truck pulled out in front of us, I got stopped about 5 foot from the truck (thanks to studs, I also huge believer in studs) but my wife didn't see it as quick as i did due to snow dust and ended up hitting the truck. The truck was basically at a 45 degree angle, she hit the truck in the fuel tank and she flopped up against the door, her sled and her ended up underneath the load of logs. Her sled was up against the drive axle and her rear bumper was wedged in behind the fuel tank. She was laying on the ground right underneath the drive shaft. we got WAY WAY LUCKY, she ended up having a sore right side Wrist, arm, shoulder and ankle. it could have/would have been so much worse without the Tek-Vest and studs.

Please stud your sleds and wear Tek-Vests, Accidents do happen. Ending note: Michigan is a no fault state..............
