Tekvest

I know there have been quite a few posts on the subject but with all the new gear out thought I would start fresh. Looking to buy a new vest. Not looking for any brand in particular. Comfort would be nice but obviously protection is the most important. Leaning towards a tekvest type not a ballistic jersey. Anyone have any reviews and/or recomendations on the newer stuff?

Much appreciated...

I have the 509. Very comfortable but runs about a 1/2 size big in the chest. Waste has adjustable straps. I believe it's made by Tekvest for 509?

I have a Klim, that's the samething as a TekVest "Freestyle", and like it very much! Don't even know it's on. Check with Leones power sports in Peru, IL.

Never heard of the bca one before. Just googled it
http://backcountryaccess.com/product/mtnpro-vest/

I ordered a tek vest for this year but it didn't fit right so I sent it back. It was very bulky around the shoulders and too big around the waist but also very short on me. I really wanted to like it since it was made in Canada.

From watching the video above, it looks like the BCA vest goes down to the waist. I might look into that one.

I have the Tekvest freestyle. I tried a few different brands including the Klim and I think the 509 at the snowshow, but they weren't fitting real great at all. The second booth I tried on the Tekvest at, the guy really knew what he was doing with adjusting the fit. Got it perfect and I love it.

The bottom line is I think having someone who really knows how to fit it for you is key to the overall satisfaction here, I would have been very frustrated had I bought it online.

Right you are rtb1 about getting the right fit. We bought ours where they have sales people how knows how to fit you. We were going to buy online, and would have been off on the correct size. Also the TekVest "Supersport" is longer front, and back as compared to the TekVest "Freestyle". It is nice to be able to sit on a sled while being fitted also.

snobuilder,

These type of replies from you are the reason why people are hesitant to post on this site lately and the subject of mainly complaints. old abe was making a constructive comment and you have to make fun of him. Why? There is no room for that on this site. I will quote John's rules, "if you do not have something positive to say about someone, then don't say it here!" Consider this a warning.

Last year I bought my first vest, a Klim. Was the only brand/style at the dealer where I bought it. Not sure how much my salesguy makes per hour, but he was probably mid 30's, ex snow cross and motor cross racer, very knowledgeable and he made sure i had the proper size and fit. Like a previous poster I'm glad I didn't just order online.
I now have protection with comfort and unrestricted movement. I agree with another poster that I feel naked without it!! Side note: a friend's brother died after hitting a snow berm and his chest slammed into his handlebars and his heart was ruptured by his broken ribs. So... I'm wearing a protective vest just in case...

Dude, no one said "trained". The guy that sold me mine was actually the owner of the shop, so I know he made at least 2X his margin that hour - he sold us both one. Considering the previous 3 people that tried to sell me one failed, I'd say there's a knack for getting it right.

Mspease is right - don't be a troll dude, most of us are just trying to help.

People such as snowbuilder don't bother me at all. Never have. Some people are just that way. I always find it interesting to hear other peoples thoughts, and comments on what ever the issue. My grandfather told me to always keep a open mind, and you can always learn something. Life, is much more genuine this way. Besides, I say so what!!!

I would like to add that the dealer we purchased our vests from, discounts the vests very good as to promote snowmobile safety. I very much respect this, and will continue to support, and buy what I can from this dealer in the future. They really support snowmobiling, and have been in the bus for 50+ years.

It may not bother you old abe, but I know for a fact it bothers many others. People are hesitant to make posts fearing what kind of replies and attacks they will get. It shouldn't be that way. The rules of this site are pretty simple.
