Received a very nice thank you letter from Rick and Jane from the Root Cellar for our years of repeat business (probably close to 20), was very thoughtful of them to do, and I hope the new owners will be just nice and keep the Root Cellar with a good name! I wish good luck to the new owners and look forward to returning!

Did you have fun with Rick and Jane?

They were fun/great people yes, went out of their way to accommodate us and make reservations happen when we needed them, sometimes when we would get in late they would bring food from the kitchen down to us, when we would call to make reservations they always remembered the voice. I haven't a single complaint in all the years I have been staying there.

Jane was a sweet heart. Rick came off pretty grumpy. We stayed there once and 5am he was pounding on our door because our sleds were parked to close to the building. Probably only had been sleeping a couple hours at that point we were less than impressed... Wonder if a guy will be able to eat a cheese burger at the bar now? Nice place to eat and drink. Stayed there once. Any idea who bought the place?

As I am always looking for new places to stay, I read the reviews on TripAdvisor, a lot of people were not happy with this place, anybody that pounds on your motel door at 5 o’clock in the morning really needs to have his manners and his attitude adjusted in my opinion, it will be interesting to see what the reviews of the new owners produce

I don't do online reviews.  If I have a problem I usually address it with the owner/manager.  Or just vote with my wallet and avoid the place.  To ricks credit he was trying to plow snow and our sleds were in the path of the plow.  5am though come on...

I have never had fun with rick and Jane. Very nice place decent food. But never stayed there because of the bad vibes I felt from them 2. I've been there multiple times but stopped going because always get the same feeling when I walk in the door. Also had brief discussion on here about it. But I have a pretty good feeling that the tables are turned for the better now ...Casey and Makenzie from gogebic Motel sled and side x side rental and Casey's brother Jesse who is a deputy and owner of Antonio's in bergland and another couple or group who I don't know are the new owners. From what I have read. .. so I'm thinking with these new young owners everything is going to be alot funner and pretty sure cheeseburgers at the bar are gonna be no problems! Happy they bought it now I have another option on lake gogebic, always avoided even checking on rootcellar vacancy because I did not want to give short Rick and Jane my money.

I'm glad to hear that there are new owners. Last time I was there was about 10 years ago, and never went back after seeing the way they were treating people. I can understand a place that gets busy needs a few rules, but there are better ways to implement the rules. I also did not care for not being able to eat at the bar. If I get a bar stool i want to keep it until i'm ready to leave.

The owners prior to Rick and Jane (the ones who had the elk behind the wood shed) were awesome, quit going in because of Ricks complaining about the snowmobilers that were keeping him in business... Might have been a decent owner, should have stayed out of the customers view though. Great location, if the new owners are hard workers, should do just fine.

Bergland, another place that dislikes sleds.

i had to check the date of the original post figured it had to be a April 1.
Glad to hear it sold, fingers crossed new owners are able to bring back the locals that Rick chased away. That guy was not put on this earth for customer service.
