"The flip"

I remember you always talking about "the flip" in late fall/ early winter. I may have missed it, but I haven't seen any mention of it this year. Is there a reason for this? (perhaps it hasn't happened yet, lets hope) It sure seems like we haven't seen it yet. Or was it really subtle this year? If I remember right, you used to say the more pronounced it was, the better.

If it happened, it was a very short one and we all missed it!

Seriously though, no major changes in the pattern have happened since autumn started. As we head through the first half of January, there are indications that the pattern could ease into one that is colder and snowier for the Midwest.
