The start of a new project...

So I just started into my 1994 RXL...

Always a treat when you open up these old beasts and start to find out what you really have. Took out the rear skid to go through that first. One bolt missing on a cross shaft the other side of the rail broke right off.

It put so much force on the second pivot point that the cross shaft inside of that is about 25% eaten away. Now to try to free up a good used one from my parts sled's deadly grip of rust and neglect.......Good thing we love this sport. A normal person would have already lost their mind.

Haha, ruff start........but when your fire that baby up on cold crisp morning be all worth it!!!

Got through both my XCR's - the one had soooooo many issues with it, but was able to patch it up mechanically. I left it pretty much as is for how it looks. The other one I have the front end completely cleaned up, even clear coated the end links on the bars so they won't rust. Turned out pretty good IMO. Rear skid was all redone last year. Time to find a nice place to put it up on the wall.....

It's Aluminum and goes inside the part that's circled in red above.

Just looking at your rear suspension I am reminded that the basic design has not changed much in 27 years. Yes, there is increased travel and better shocks. But the basic design is the same. Shock locations and wheels the same. Aluminum slide rails the same. New stuff the same for $10,000.00 more. 1994 was right before they started getting crazy with their first long travel HP sucking rear suspensions. When you get done with your RXL it will go just as fast as a lot of the new iron. It won't get there as quick and it will be rougher to ride. But it won't be slow. It will also be a warmer ride than 90% of the new stuff for sale today. How far have we really come in 27 years? Sometimes I wonder.

A LONG WAYS. I would NEVER consider riding one of these like I do my new iron. 100 miles on one of these sleds and you better be looking for the end of your riding day. On my Axys, 200 and I could keep going if I didn't want to sit down and have a beer..... Personally, there isn't much comparison in the ride, my 2018 is light years ahead of that 1993.

A lot of time on the old wire wheel this summer, and all pieces got 4-5 coats from the rattle can..... Take your time, it will come out just as nice!

My brother has one of these at one time... LOVED THE SOUND OF IT!! Good luck!!
