You can skate for miles and miles. I have seen this only happen a couple of times in my life. Some good videos of this on Facebook. Do a google search.

PS. Some areas on the canal always have thin ice, like near the bridge and near the old Quincy smelter.

With the snow coming there will be no more lake skating. I read in the paper someone went thru the ice off of Navy Street in Hancock.

I would think Chassell Bay would be a safer location.
