Things for families to do around Eagle River, WI

We spend a week or so at a relative's place near Eagle River each summer. Normally playing around the water, a bit of fishing, the go kart/mini golf place in town. Three kids, ages 8 - 12. Thought I'd see what else we should be doing in that area. Looks like we'll be up there in July or August this year. Thanks for any suggestions.

Make a trip up to the Porcupine Mountains and see Lake of the Clouds. I rank it as one of the top 5 things to see in the U.P. Also great for hiking. It is about 90 miles from Eagle River WI. If you take the highway on the west side of Lake Gogebic there are a couple of parks along the Lake. One is a state park and another a county park. They are both good rest and play spots along the way.

One Second Before Bond Falls Wipe Out
This picture was taken at Bond Falls over ten years ago above the main falls along the river. At that time, I don't think the easy access to the falls was built yet and you had to walk along the river to some steep steps to see the falls. I believe, the nice viewing boardwalk was not built yet.

Anyway, I climbed down to the river to have my kids take my picture. I stepped out into the river to have my picture taken and the rocks were very slippery. I slipped on the rocks and wiped out into the river. At the time, I had about $4,000 in my pocket since were we staying at the casino. All I could think of was that money coming out of my pocket and floating down the river and going over the falls. Fortunately the money stayed in my pocket. Don't venture out on the rocks. They are slippery.

You were worried about the money! It must not have been near full flow or you would have had a far more life altering experience.
