The border between the US and Canada has the trees chopped down also. They don't have to do it where it is water, but they do where it is a land border.

Norway built an official snowmobile trail years ago. It was like a 10 mile loop. No one used it so they figured there wasn't much interest. Maybe they missed the piont.
