This wet pattern...

John, as you may or may not know I work with farmers for a living. This weather pattern is nuts! Two nice days then three rainy days. My local forecast has rain every day the next eight days. Heavy rain besides. Crazy. The entire Midwest is dealing with it and it's really adding to the struggles of the AG sector of this great nation. Care to comment on this pattern and what might be behind it? Have you ever seen anything like it? https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/qpf/day1-7.shtml

I know that link is taboo but look at it. Almost all of the Midwest is in the 4-6 inch rain in 7 day map. Stupid!! What's going on?

We are stuck in a bad spot. A ridge of hot high pressure in the southeast united states. A cold trough out of the Northwest. Creating moisture being sucked out of the Western Gulf of Mexico and then riding between the two in what the weather channel is dubbing the "Ring of Fire". So called because Oklahoma, Missouri, and other states are sitting in a bullseye for tornadoes. Not to mention all the rain, and flooding, or abnormally cold temps in North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. We now have our corn all in, and 22 of 170 acres of soybeans. The first corn went in a week n a half ago and is cracking the ground, but is not up yet. We are hoping we don't have a Father's Day frost like back in the early 90's, but I should be grateful that our home isn't floating away, or ripped apart by a tornado. Prayers to those who are dealing with the worst Mother Nature has to offer.

WorkHardPlayhrd hit the nail on the head in describing the atmospheric conditions that have brought all the wet weather.

As for what causes the pattern to become "stuck", that is still a question. It happens at least several times a year, not always the same areas impacted or the same anomalous weather, but happens. Most of the time is does not cause as much drama, so it is not always noticed by folks not monitoring the weather on a daily basis.

Potential changes in the offing, especially by later this week and beyond.

It does look to be changing, glad to see. I feel lucky to have all but a few beans left to plant in S. Central WI. Like Work Hard says, its worse for others. I just took a picture yesterday just S. of Kansas City of a field with water about 5 ft short of covering center pivot irrigation units. That's like 8 ft deep. That field was planted late April.

We have 22 acres of beans left that needs at least a week of dry weather to do, but we have done a lot of no till this year in order to keep going. Two things we've done this year that we've never done before are one shovel snow off the roofs. Two tear apart the planter to get the mud out of the seed firming wheels. 90% of our corn is up. We're waiting to see what other new things this year brings us.

NO changes here, still having rain every 40 hours or so for over a year and half, only changes I can say, is weather is getting more extreme, have had a few tornado's the past 2 weeks mixed in with the rains, big temp swings often, (70 yesterday, and 37 this morning!)
its sure not what is normal here, after living here over 40 yrs, , never had swings so often and surely not this much rain,
My area is already PAST last yrs record setting rain fall, were like I think according to local news, a ft higher rain falls than last yrs record breaking rain totals for the yr.
about 2+ ft over normal average rainfalls!

had frost warning here today and for tomorrow too they say! past 5 yrs in row had these late frost(not normal) and ruined all fruit tree harvests on my tree's, that normally produced a ton of fruit for the critters here, not to mention me LOL
I sure do hope things turn around soon though, fingers and toes crossed here, farmers here have been hit hard with rains last yr, they could sure use a better yr this yr too!

With what we got hammered with last night we are now at 9.5 inches at our farm for September. Nothing personal but it could shut off right now till December 1st and I would be happy.

Ya I didn't have even a half inch in august. Got close to 10 inches so far for september. Next week looks bad as well. You see the forecast for Montana?

It has to start snowing somewhere!😁
And here it is:
From AZFamily.com Sep 23, 2019 (click )→ Snow falls near Flagstaff on first day of fall.

It's been a helluva week in Airyzony.
Hurricane Lorena wandered up the Gulf of California this past weekend, then fizzled out over Mexico, but left a load of moisture right at the Mexico/US border. Then a closed Low parked over the mouth of the Colorado River just sat there slowly turning and pumping all that moisture up into Airyzony.

Hurricanes, four days of Rain & Thunderstorms, Tornadoes and snow in Flagstaff?

Ye dogs, I thought I died and went to Florida!
