Time lapse of storm from Calumet High School

Well, even though many social media posts and even our own illustrious news paper declared the storm did not live up to hype (scratching my head on that one!), here is a time lapse of the storm (several days worth) from the Calumet High School.

Too bad the snow piled up and blocked the view at the end, it would have been neat to see what was going on.

I don't know for sure, but I think what happened was that the snow just started to drift over the window.

I saw the "Illustrious" article in the on-line edition....I scratched my head as well at the part where they said "no roads were closed...life just continued normally". Now, to be (somewhat) fair, I don't remember the date the article was posted, however, here's M26 at Great Sand Bay on Sunday the 23rd.

Well, it's sort of the way things work up here- to some extent. If you live in Houghton and it did not happen in Houghton, then it did not happen...period. Some (certainly not all) have a "center of the universe" thing going on down there. :)

I am pretty sure the editorial was done for Monday's paper. I got the gist of his message, we did not panic up here and did not need the State/Federal Government to come to our rescue...etc, but think his message would have been even stronger if he had not said the storm did not get as bad as predicted. The truth is, with the exception of the Thursday night/early Friday snow totals being less (due to the fact that it was a much wetter/heavier snow than expected), the storm out performed all the forecasts for wind, snow totals, visibility reduction and duration.

Wowsa what a picture! The shovel was an awesome touch!

Glad to see you made it out alive! :)

LOL....I was glad to get out alive as well!! Now...to be honest....I did not take that picture. A friend on their way to dig out someone's driveway, took the shot. They parked by the Jam Pot and walked in from there. The shovel was actually used. I did take a video on Saturday afternoon from just outside the new parking lot on Great Sand Bay. I will post it this evening when I get home. Suffice it to say, it tells a pretty decent story.

That pic was taken by my cousin whom had posted it on FB, I had tried to post this on Tuesday, but because it was a screen shot of the FB page, it would not let me. Nonetheless, as John said, "if you live in Houghton & it did not happen in Houghton, then it didn't happen." I can tell you this much, the snows with winds from the ENE began at my location (Tamarack / Hubbell) at 9:20 p.m. with sustained winds at 15 mph with gusts over 25 mph +, by 10:20 p.m. I had measured between 2.5 & 3". I thought I heard thunder, but could not verify it, however, upon my report to the NWS, they did confirm the Thunder Snow from the Houghton Co. Airport & did advise me that there would be a lull around morning, however, that it would be very brief. What do you know, it was indeed brief & the ugly picked back up where it left off. Fortunately, the temps dropped & gave us a lighter variety of snow on top of the cement that we were given Thursday night. Definitely was NOT a bust, but as I told John, damn near busted me into pieces, LOL! BTW, I'm still not done cleaning up in my play area & it will have to wait until temps get a tad warmer cause I am not blowing 18" of snow for 5 hours in this sub-zero crapola!-:rolleyes:Mezz

You should be able to "right click" on the FB picture and choose "save image as". Just remember WHERE you are saving it to. I typically just save it to the desktop.

I do feel for you with the snow AND cold though. :(

"On the way" to Great Sand Bay...Carl Spackler was heard saying, "I'd keep playing....I don't think the heavy stuff's gonna come down for quite awhile." ;)

I got the picture sent to me by another relative via e-mail as I don't do FB. I saved it as you described, but when I went to add it to the thread I was trying to post, it would not allow me to. Oh well, it's out there for all to see, that's the important thing. Thanks for your condolences, LOL! Take it easy, we should have some decent late season riding at the very least.-Mezz
