This past February while dealing with an issue on my buddy Joe's 900, I had his exhaust off, so I pulled the y pipe to check on the pistons/cylinders. I noticed that the mag side piston was scored pretty bad, he decided to just run it that way until the end of the season. So today I tore into it to check things out further. The mag side cylinder is scored along with the piston, and the piston has a real nice crack in the skirt. The pto side is fine. Luckily that piston skirt didn't break, it would have gotten real expensive if he would have had to put a crank in it. So, there will be new pistons/rings and one new/replated cylinder going on. Hopefully I will have it wrapped up by next weekend. I pulled his radiator out of it also, that gets rid of 7 lbs off the front end.

Skylar,
I'm sure you already know this, but if that scoring is on the exhaust port side, you most likely have a lean condition going on there. Hate to see you rebuild it, only to have the same thing happen again. Did you check the wash?

Wash is fine, plugs look fine also. I believe the issue came from the fact that the brass plug that is pressed in to the case, that the oil line is attached to, vibrated out (common problem with these 900's)and caused the scoring.

Stack, yep, I've already told my buddy Joe about Indy Dan's 900 cranks and upgrades. Thanks for the reminder!

Awesome, Have fun with the rebuild! BTW your sled looks awesome, you did a great job on it this summer....now you just need snow! Maybe your next sled will be some Chris Burandt Special....I am still in mourning at losing Burandt
