Togwotee/Jackson Hole

Going to Togwotee in January, what is there to do in the evenings? I will have my own vehicle and thinking about making a trip to Jackson Hole one evening. What have others done???? Just curious!

Sleep!

After getting back from a day in the powder and having a decent meal, you will have spent your daily allocation of energy and will soon become horizontal. If not, a trip to Jackson can be done. Snake River Brewery for some local beer, a trip to the Million Dollar Saloon, walk around the square and get some T-shirts, Mangy Moose store for some interesting stuff. There are a few suggestions.

X1000! I am 42, 43 in January, and when I get done riding for the day, I have a pitcher of beer at happy hour, eat dinner, and am fast asleep soon after that! I have no idea how guys can stay up and party after a full day of riding out there! LOL.

If I make it to the end of dinner I did well at Tog. 8:30 pm and sound asleep. They got it all figured out for you out there. All day mtn. riding, happy hour, dinner, hot tub if you got any more in you and then bed. Tog. is not your typical "UP ride all day party all night" type of venture. Sleep is good on this adventure. No riding at night. Tog. is the real thing, Mtns. and wilderness best to stay in at night.

I will also chime in about the fact that you are thinking "stick a fork in me, I'm done" after riding all day, happy hour and then dinner.

Many might be thinking: "why?".

The big answer is that us flatlanders are not use to the altitude and your body uses a ton more energy out there to do just the simplest tasks (like walking up a flight of stairs). Over the course of the day of riding, digging out, etc, your body is just worn down to a lump of jello, even those that are in pretty decent shape.

There are a few that can go all night long, but they also seem to be in pretty rough shape the next day.

A trip to Jackson is not going to kill you, but keep in mind it is about a 60 minute drive, the final 20-25 minutes back to to the lodge being mountain driving on a twisty road that may or may not be experiencing near white out conditions, so not something you want to be doing when you are totally worn out.

I would say if you really want to go to Jackson, then head there right after riding and get back not too late. You will thank yourself the next day.

For most though, it is ride, happy hour, eat, sleep. Get up and do it all over again, all with a big smile on your face!

Perfectly put John. I have put a Jackson day in my trips right around the middle of a 5 day Tog. stay. Ride 2 days, Jackson 1 day, ride 2 days. Works for me. The lack of air is tough on us flatlanders. If I push the full 5 days you can tell you deminish as the week goes by.

There are times when it's ride, shower, nap, eat, sleep! Not uncommon for me to be sacked out by 7 and then up at 4 or 5. Riding the west hung over sucks!

Well said by all. eat breakfast, ride, lunch maybe, ride some more. Oh yeah and dig, dig, dig. Happy hour snacks, nap, dinner and you are exhausted. I Like John said walking the flight of stairs is tiring to us flatlanders. You are out cold by ten.

My first time out to Tog. was with Smurfrider, we had a room in the lodge. We checked in and made it 3/4's of the way up the steps, sat down on the steps and broke out into hysterical laughter, We could not breath.(We don't smoke) If you smoke, quit now. even a few months of no smoking will help out. By mid morning next day we where somewhat adjusted. The more I go out west riding the quicker I get used to it. You will be running on adrenelin and testosterone most the time. Us older guys operate on grape NOS and Snickers bars! lol.
