Tomahawk

Real thin here after another busy weekend. Groomer said not enough to groom. Locals say it’s rough. I’m tired of the snirt and grit and will be going home early. I’ll be back when they get more snow.

This is correct. We are on Nokomis and the trails are beat down all through the area north of Tomahawk. We were out to the Willow area and up to Lake Tomahawk and by Saturday afternoon the carbides were taking a 12th round beating.... Need more snow...

well that sucks to hear. Bringing my kids up for their first time. My son will be on his own sled. Which direction did you ride?

Saturday we went out to the Willow in the morning from Nokomis, ran north up to Hazelhurst, across the lake to Lake Tomahawk, down and back over to the grade (this is when conditions went south). Then went up and crossed 51 at Cycle X, back out to Willow Wood, then south to home/Nokomis.

From the Willow to Lake Tom was excellent. From SE of Lake Tom back to Willow, to Nokomis in the afternoon the carbides cut gravel the whole way, trails were smooth, but the grinding was something else. I put new Dualies on both sleds Sunday morning, no remaining carbide on the left ski of each......

The trails are OK early in the day after grooming, but there is really no significant base, so they rip up fast.....

Unless you a get heavy wet snow followed by very cold weather and they are groomed before everyone tears them up the grades are traditionally suspect. If you stay off the grades the trails in the forest/woods can be pretty good, may not be perfect but good to awesome in spots. I have not been down that way on a snowmobile this year but I do travel to Rhinelander through Lake Tomahawk every 2 weeks and the grade from Minocqua to Rhinelander looks thin so reports seem accurate.

I rode the trail 51c loop early this morning...First sled on it freshly groomed...The 51 grade was also groomed and in good condition...I rode Lincoln, Oneida, Vilas, Iron, counties tuesday...Everywhere except for Eagle River was in good shape...Northern Vilas and Iron county were CLOSE to EXCELLENT...Everything from Minocqua north got upwards of a fresh 4" during the day tuesday...
