So I took a ride (the long way) to my buddies camp last week and came up on this guy. Not sure how many of you guys have seen a Moose in the woods but it's equal parts exciting as it is scary. BIG stinking animals. You will have to click and zoom. He's right over the steering wheel.

You dont want to get to close to Moose. They will charge you. Ive been charged on the snowmobile before. They aren't scared of humans, until they hear the gun go off.

How many people are killed by moose vs. bears in Alaska?
Moose outnumber bears nearly three to one in Alaska, wounding around five to 10 people in the state annually. That's more than grizzly bear and black bear attacks combined [source: Smith].Sep 18, 2019

Came around a corner on my sled near Lutsen MN, and there stood a big moose. He was walking down the trail away from me, but turned and looked at me...HARD.
I locked up the brake and stared intently off to the side of the trail to assess how deep the snow was.
I knew I wouldn't get far with my 121" track. As I was figuring out how I was going to just exit stage left and purposely roll the sled over onto me for SOME protection, he ambled off down the trail.

WHEW!!

I got past the line of cars and got the f out of there. Just another problem of social media... Doot da do look at me and these moose's ain't I cool???

Lol, now you know why I took the picture from inside the RZR and you have to click and zoom. I wasn't getting any closer. The machine was running and in high range, one foot on the brakes the other hovering over the gas pedal.... seriously.

Came around a corner 3 winters ago at 4AM about 10 miles west of Grand Portage MN. Thought I was going nuts. Lucky for us it went immediately off trail into the snow and we got past it. Don't trust a bull moose any more then a dairy bull on a farm.

Or maybe worse, a mama moose with a calf or two. Seriously protective of her young uns!

Years ago I stumbled on a tv show about a guy living alone in a remote cabin in the woods. I don't know where he was, but I remember him being asked what animal he was scared of. His answer was not wolves, bears, or cougars as many people would assume. A bull moose during the rut was the only thing that scared him.

I've seen a lot of tracks on trails, but never actually encountered one! Would be scary for sure.....

They are fun to see. We saw 6 last winter, best winter yet. But didn't find any sheds.

In 1987 I was in Yellowstone during the winter with my parents. This is back when your could ride in the park without a guide or BAT sleds. We were riding on the Grand Loop inside Yellowstone and on the way to Old Faithful from the east gate I came across a family of moose (bull, cow and calf in that order) crossing the road. I was so close I almost drove the snowmobile underneath the cow. I can still vividly picture that moment. Of course I did not get any pictures, they were gone in a heartbeat and I was still catching my breath.

More and more common up here now. We see lots of them on our trail cams. Speaking of dumb *ss moves, we were out in Sturgis on bikes a couple years ago and cars were stopped looking at Buffalo. I was watching one roll in a dust wallow to my right, only to turn my head to the left and see this guys eyeball about 3 feet away. There was a bit of pucker factor for a few minutes til he decided to walk away.
