I have done the top 5 (some many times) Looking at McCall next. Note: #2 and #3 should be combined as one riding area. Is this list pretty much correct? Taking into account, Snow quality, lodging, fuel, location, ease of getting to, fun factor, weather, cost, etc.

Imagine that, the K-Mart of western Riding ranks #5, Wayne. I also have rode at the top 5 places along with Steamboat Colorado.

I'm willing to bet Colorado and northern California have some additional spots in their mountains to put on this list... I'm just saying.

There is nothing wrong with the Snowies.... especially on the Western slope.

Tell that to Wayne. After his experience last year that was his comment. Being that Kev and I have grown to love the area we say it must be because it is convenient to drive to, inexpensive and has everything you need, just like K-mart. Wayne stayed on the east side and the group had a share of problems.

That is some list Wayne, is it from some publication. Watch out, in American Snowmobiler had the UP ranked number 1, cancel the mountain trips and listen to advertising dollars. Am Snow Article

The Cache Valley in Utah is a must, I drove through this summer. I will be planning a trip out there in 2013...who is in?
I also plan on giving Colorado another chance next season, as we are planning on Grand Mesa. I also found a spot we can get to with the BIG RIG in the Big Horns, next year we are going to mix it up a bit....then we will have just a couple more to knock off the list.

The Am Snow ranking is based on reader votes. Probably where most of the readers ride.

I got the list from Snowwest guys. The guys over there helped put it together. Colorado was totally missed. (brain fart I guess). I am willing to do Snowies again but on the west side and with Jacob and Kevin showing me around. No offense Keith but never east siding it again, just wasn't my cup of tea.

I think I'm with you. We had a lot of fun on the eastern side in April the last few years but it wasn't 'good' last January when we were there. We did make it over to the western side but it is a bear getting there. The deepest and best snow is usually around the French Creek area. When I went to the Milwaukee show I spoke with Bret Rasmussen about several places and he also suggested the area of Encampment that touches the Colorado boarder. I think I'll do the Snowies in April this year if possible and next year is Alpine Wyoming, Grand Mesa Colorado, or Cooke/Idaho.

Polarisrider1, It is time you try the Big Horns at Burgess jct. I think you will like the area and it is lot closer to drive. There are 3 Lodges to chose from and from what I experienced this summer it is one huge off Trail riding area with some huge open Hills. It has a Trail system, but I do not think it is maintained as well as IP or Tog/Lava from what I have heard. If I go there in the Winter I may need the Kids turbo Yamaha instead of my Grand Touring.

I was in the Snowies the same time you guys were and was riding in waist to chest deep powder the whole time. I definitely had to look for it but it was there!! To bad we didn't get hooked up with each other. One of the spots we were riding I was actually submarining my sled through the deepest powder I have ever been in...EVER! It was localized and in the trees, but you just have to know where to look. I've said it before and I'll say it again, NEVER had a bad time in the Snowies!

As far as the list, it had many factors to it. Each factor had it's own grading scale. Each factor also had many individual ideas of what value the factor has. such as gas avail. is high for me. lower for the etec guys, No trailering each day is a huge plus factor for me, some guys don't mind that. and on and on. I guess that's what makes so many places popular. For me the traveling out part is not a great issue since I am traveling with others or flying out. so 5 more hours travel is a non issue for me and a huge factor for others. Key is we have a great time, make new friends, meet up with old friends and have lasting memories!

April to the west side of snowies is a fantastic idea. Strap me on the roof rack with aunt Edna if ya have too! Kevin will have to teach me how to shift the "Motor home". lol
