I know the conditions from the past on 109 where less than fun. The first half from Twin Lakes is a LOT of fun but then you get to the other half and its terrible. Wet and rough. Heard something of a mention of a re-route this year. Any truth to it? Who can tell me if its worth riding or not??

I would suggest calling the Baraga Tourism Bureau, and ask them if they have maintained, and groomed the whole way to the Power Line turn around, where Superior Snowmobile club takes over. I listed the phone numbers you can use in a earlier thread slimcake. Maybe if they get enough calls, complaints, perhaps they will do what they are paid to do? Maintain, and groom the complete 109 trail, instead of just the easy part. This years weather is the best excuse they have ever had not to imo.

The 109 reroute was way south of that due to a washout is my understanding.

I am sure slimcake was questioning the portion south of where Superior Snowmobile club grooming ends, and Baraga takes over at the power line turn around. From this switch out point, to Alston is the very worst, and south of there is usually not great, but somewhat better south to Laird road.

I was in krupps last night...they told me somebody wasstuck in thecwater north of the powerlines where the groomer turns around. Do not go to Baraga, they said at krupps that Baraga does not have a groomer. Thats why it sucks up there.

I'm sure he was too, but the re-route he heard about is 109 more south towards Sidnaw, that's all I was saying.

Okay, my bad? He did mention Alston, so I figured it was that part he was referring to? As for the Re Route, that is all open, and good!

Baraga does not have a groomer? What's with this? They perhaps have break downs, or mechanical issues, so as a groomer is not available, this is very possible? But I can tell you this, Baraga has GROOMERS. Plural! I have been told they run 4 groomers on their maintained trails.

I just want to go from Twin Lakes to sidnaw using 109. 109 always starts so good. Railing those sweeping corners and keeping a good clip going and the boom it turns to crap half way through. I take it that is how it still is going to be??

Sad to say, it appears to be so slimcake. It could be one of the most scenic, and fun trails in the area. I realize that there are portions of 109 that can be very difficult, with certain conditions, to maintain, and groom. However, no more effort than the Baraga Grooming group puts forth on these parts of 109, there is absolutely no excuse for the condition it's in! They, Baraga Grooming, continually allow this trail to become so out of condition, that it becomes impossible to correct it to being a good groomed trail. This is when the issue of safety comes to be the real, big, issue! This situation has continually gone on far too long!

That part of 109 is a swamp the water is two feet deep in places. It is seldom groomed before the middle of Jan.

Slim, I am up here now and 109 just south of twin lakes had a major water hole...might freeze up tonight, maybe later. 109 re route south of Rousseau is great, one of the best trails
i have ridden so far this year. I would advise checking out “stretch” trail conditions. It’s really hot and miss up here right no.

P.D. showed me the hole today, hope you recover quickly.
Conditions are interesting in the U.P. today, snowed from Houghton south with super trail conditions til I turned on to 12E that was mostly ungroomed to the Rosseau bar due to the soft ground.
Sat in Rosseau til the Viking game was over and it was freezing rain back to Greenland. Waited out the rain then departed for Houghton again. Trail 3 north was in and off washboard but met two groomers handling business.
Gonna try everything north of the Houghton bridge Monday.

I am all good Fuji.....those big holes caught me by surprise. Didn’t know I hit them til I was a couple feet above my sled. Broke my brake lever right off but didn’t break the actual brake or parking break mechanism. Put my hand through the front windshield. Both should be a easy fix! The conditions in the UP last weekend was also over the board and even Friday night we were riding home in some freezing rain conditions. Besides a couple bruises, some basic broke sled parts and a slightly deflated ego I will be back on the trail in a week and a half! Hope your trip goes great!
