Trail 417 along the lake in Marquette

Noticed it was paved over the summer. There is still going to be a trail here right? Usually when trails get paved snowmobiles get shunned off. If not then no more rocks to worry about in this area right along the lake running parallel to HWY 41.

Yeah from the wastewater treatment plant to the Michigan welcome center. Officials are calling it a multi use path. Hope that usage includes snowmobiles.

Just rode part of it on the Harley Labor Day weekend as part of an Extended Lake Michigan Circle tour. Really pretty!

I am pretty sure that trail has been paved for quite awhile as it is part of the Marquette bike trail system. We stay at the Birchmont Motel which is directly on HWY 41 across from the trail and Lake in the fall for NMU football games and I am sure it has been paved at least two years now. Last year for sure because we walked acrossed it to get to Lake Superior. Not too mention we rode that trail three years ago and I recall it being paved then I believe, seeing as though it's close proximity to the lake causes most of the snow to be blown from the trail and the pavement was visible in some areas. So I am pretty sure the term "multi-use trail" is being used in the truest sense, here.

Paved with a special Abrasion Resistant HMA just for snowmobilers, and a earthen berm on the lake side to act like a snowfence to hopefully drop the snow out right on the trail. I was invited to a meeting with MDOT when this project was in design stages for my input on it, which these ideas were already thought of. Was glad they thought of us!
