Rode Trail 5 from the trail 5/trail 8 junction. Definitely had enough snow, perhaps a few more runs from the groomer would be helpful. Aside from the area that had recently been logged which was about 10 miles north of the junction I thought the trail was in better shape than I expected.
I hadn't ridden that stretch of trail 5 in over 5 years and would have to say I didn't recognize it. So much logging has been going on and a few reroutes (i think). I don't recall it having as much of the twisties. I remember 5-7 years ago more of an even mix. Don't get me wrong there is still a mix, but I think it's like 85% twisties, 15% straight/higher speed stretches. BUT still a beautiful trail.
Hardly saw any sleds. I think we passed 10-12 sleds in the 100 miles today. Expected much more. In fact the most sleds I saw was parked at the thunder bay Inn.
