Subject: Trail opening
Good morning all. Just an update on inspections. We have 7 clubs done and another 4 (Phelps, Presque Isle, Manitowish Waters and Land O’Lakes) that are not ready. The projected earliest opening of December 12 is no longer feasible. Manitowish Waters and Presque Isle need to be inspected by snowmobile and that will require freezing the low areas and having accompanying snow. Most of the other clubs that have been inspected, have a lot of damage from automobile traffic creating deep ruts. It will take substantial snow to fill these in prior to claiming our trails open and safe to ride.
With the winds last night and today, clubs should go out once again and be sure their trail system is clear of new trees down. The forecasted snow amounts are all over the place right now so let’s see what the end of this week brings. Please remember that if you have already addressed your inspection items and are ready to go, I will need your consensus on whether your trail system can be opened safely. The last thing we want to do is invite snowmobilers up here and have them sink their sleds or rentals in a swamp that is not frozen.
I will keep in touch. Thank you for all you do!
