Trail report Keweenaw

It's a real mixed bag. This morning I hit ungroomed trails with well over a foot of powder blowing over my head. Sometimes it was a pain is if you got towards the edge you hit more powder and you just got totally blind it as you were trying to make a difficult maneuver to get back on the trail. These were on the side Trails like 13 and 109. You can't go all the way through or at least I didn't there's trees down and water holes. but it was fun. I got my powder in which was my plan for today. The bill Nichols is pretty good they are grooming it there's a few waterholes particularly when she get down towards Mass City and Greenland its especially between Macedon Greenland is not good but it's passable it's not horrible a few watery spots but nothing deep. This weekend the bridge in Houghton is not open so you can not cross. I don't mean to Matt's not there the bridge is up there's no Crossing it. It will be open starting next Saturday the 16th. I called the resort up north of the bridge I just happened to catch the groomer so they put them on the line. He had groom from Mohawk to Copper Harbor and you didn't sound that excited. He said there's a couple of inches of Base but there's water holes and some rocky Spots. I'm just like well yeah we know that early-season but otherwise it's pretty good right? He didn't seem so enthused but he said it wasn't bad. Bottom line is if they get 12 to 24 on top of this it's going to be pretty good in my opinion. That's said they're still will be some water spots. I guess that you're out of gay is closed which is our big bummer. And one other Char forget which one is closed for logging. Anyway it's early-season conditions the snow is insulating some of the water holes and they're not going to freeze up that quick but on the main trail I didn't cross anything to get too excited about. I would expect I would hope they'll get some of these trees cleaned up on the side Trails. I don't know if they'll be able to groom how much water there is and stuff like that. But we're having a lot of fun up here! I've got some great pics but I'm just using voice translator for this I don't think I have the time or the inclination to figure it all out to get them uploaded I think if they get 12 to 24 is predicted should be pretty good up here I'm sure they'll get things whipped into shape pretty quick up here. I don't know I hope that helps at least somebody's got a report now LOL.

Any recent updates on the trail conditions in the Kewee, say from the lift bridge up to copper harbor ?

How far south of the bridge can you go and stay in good conditions ?

Were coming up for Christmas sunday to weds so hoping things just keep improving....................

Conditions up around Copper Harbor were great this weekend, from the truck on the way back today it looked pretty good all the way past Mass City.

Rode today from houghton up to gay, copper, calumet, hancock, twin lakes, Greenland. Overall pretty good. Made mistake of going to Gay right out of the gate from Houghton, it is a rough ride to Gay, then you get there and the other two trails are closed(one to lake linden and other back to 3, i think 124 and 133? Got back to 3, just groomed, headed north to copper harbor, turned around short, because it was getting too rocky. Came back south. All the trails ariound calumet were perfect. Covered all the trails in the calumet area, headed south past Houghton, freshly groomed, turned off on Freda loop, first few miles were great, went up to red ridge, then south on Freda, hit a 5 mile stretch that was brutal. But got better towards end. Did some off trail, then blew jackshaft bearing and had to limp down to pats Polaris in Greenland. Got a bearing but needed a new flange and a new shaft. only had bearing. I'm going to try to slide new bearing in am. Pretty decent, but there are some bad spots.

About 5" new snow this morning at Krupps in Twin Lakes. Got down to Rockland yesterday and the last 5 miles into Rockland were not very good. Very tin and rocky. East end of Bill Nichols was great but we did not do the full loop. 3 is great to Houghton.

Where did you end up having to turn around at on the way to Copper? We are staying in Lac La Belle starting this Friday through New years. I have not heard people saying much about calumet and north. Some have mentioned rocky but wasn't sure if that was just the last few miles into copper from Brockway... ?

They are going to get pounded with snow! I wouldn't worry about it.

I was riding in Lac La Belle on Monday and they only have one trail in right now but it was decent riding with a few water spots. Trail 124 was closed and also trail 132 I think. All trails to Copper Harbor were fine as was the trail up Brockway Mountain. It got a little thin as we rode down and back to trail 3. As stated above with all the snow they are expecting everything should be fine. Most trails we rode over the last 3 days were pretty good early season riding. The only exception I can think of is trail 13 and parts of the Freda loop. But new snow and some grooming will change that fast.

Mat is down, and we turned around short of copper harbor just passed the 2nd trail to eagle harbor. What the issue was rocks mixed in with the snow, loose, I think there were some big lug tracks Braaaping the rocks up before it got packed down. Either way after another foot to two feet of lake powder and the keweenaws awesome grooming staff it will be great. It was great around Calumet, as good as it ever gets all winter, white, no snirt, carve the corners. Wish I was there right now. Merry Christmas all you Hardcore Sledders!
