Trail width

I could not find the topic of widening trails, but thought...................would anyone argue about the width of this trail? (I don't expect an answer, just wanted to share the picture). :)

That's a nice picture, and this area looks like it's kept this way for this reason. (the scenery part of the sport)

Twin Lakes--That pic was taken Jan 1996 on trail #3 across from Krupp's Mini-Mart. It was taken right after we rec'd 40 inches snow in 36 hours. The groomer had just gone thru to pack the snow down and the trail was groomed just over 10 ft. wide. At that time, Vince Castellanos was Associate Editor from Snowgoer magazine, and was staying with us to take a tour of the Keweenaw. Vince called from Bruce Crossing and Richard advised him not to come further because of road conditions. He said "I'm coming anyway." On the way he picked up a fella who had gone deep into the ditch. Ended up the fella stayed over-night also and called a wrecker in the morning. When Richard and Vince were getting ready to leave on their sleds to go North, Richard suggested they trailer up part of the way because of the deep snow conditions on the trail. Vince said, "no, I came to ride." When they got on the trail, the scene was so breathtaking that they stopped so Vince could get a pic. After he snapped the pic, thinking Vince was done-Richard took off and then Vince snapped this pic. Had we only known, we would've put a little sign on the trail just saying Twin Lakes, UP so people would know where it was taken. Then, when the motel was built, a little to the North, all of these trees were cut down.
The story, with the first pic snapped, was published in Snowgoer magazine December 1996.

I would say that trail is to narrow but Sandy just said why. Normally that trail is much wider. In that pic there is no way a sled could get around a groomer and probably not long after that is was widened?

Great story Sandy! That is a great picture, but never knew that was Richard!

I have seen that picture for years, thanks for putting a story with it. I'm going to eat my first pasty today for lunch that I bought at the mini-mart 2 weeks ago when I was in Twin Lakes.

Great to hear the story behind the picture. I always assumed the picture was North of the bridge. I don't know why. Maybe because there is a trail just North of Houghton that reminds me of that pic.

Wow! I hadn't a clue were the pic was taken. Just thought it was way cool! Sad the trees had to go. I actually walked that section one night, but that's a different story. Nice to get the story of the picture. (Richards all over Facebook by the way).
