trailer back up power at the plug

this has to do with my boat trailer, but I thought I would check with some JDers. My new boat trailer has surge disc brakes on it. All aluminum Nextrail trailer. It has the back up solenoid that disengages the disc brakes when you back up (at least it's supposed to), which comes off the reverse light circuit when you put your truck in reverse as the center pole in the 7-way factory plug (reverse lights). I was able to confirm that I do NOT have power on that center pole when my truck is in reverse. All other contacts have power according to their purpose (tail, blinker, brake lights, etc.). I traced the wire as far back as I could (factory wiring harness) and have no power for that center pole wire. Very quickly it goes into the master wireing harness under the truck and thus lose the capability to track it back.

Truck is a 02 Chev Avalanche Z-71 5.2l. Everything is factory and stock.

Anybody have any idea if there is a special fuse or something that I need to put in my truck to "activate" the reverse pole on my plug, or is it more likely a bad connection somewhere? I have no idea if that center pole ever worked on my truck as I have never needed the reverse solenoid before.

Any suggestions on how I can trouble shoot? Again, it's not the plug, bc I don't have power for that wire (purple) going into the plug, but I don't even know if that circuit is supposed to be live or if I need to do something to the truck like add a fuse or something? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I don't have an exact solution but, In my 2007 Z71 Suburban, the service guys at the local RV dealer had to hook up a couple of wires that were located under the hood to a couple of posts in the fuse box under the hood. They were two red wires that were taped off to another wiring harness near the master cylinder.
In my 05 3/4 ton Yukon XL, I just had to add an extra fuse in the top left slot in the fuse box under the hood. It was a square fuse, not the usual type.

This solved all the breaking issues I had.

Hope it helps.

I have an 06 gmc 2500 and did not have any power on the terminal that is the feed for the interior lights on new sled trailer. I went to dealer and there was no fuse in that spot from factory=they said this is usually the case! not sure about your vintage of vehicle, but I wouldnt think your back up lights would work if that was the case.

That terminal should have power to it for the back up lights. I have had problems with the weather pack plug under the bumper on the main wiring harness.Follow your wiring harness up thru the truck and unplug the connections and test there and also check for corrosion.I bet you will find a wire corroded off the back of one of the plugs.
