Trailer interior lights - Need fuse in truck to make work?

Looking for someone with experience with this. I bought a new enclosed trailer and was looking to explore the interior during last evening. Well, I found out that they didn't work (and yes it was connected to the truck)! Called trailer dealer and they said my truck needs a fuse added to one of the panels to make work.

So, my question is, would someone know where this supposed fuse is on my truck (04 chevy suburban)? I looked at both the panel on the side of the dash and under the hood and couldn't see anything obvious.

Thanks in advance for any help!

interior trailer lights

If you call me at work 330.669.7045 between 12:30 and 3:00 in the afternoon I can look it up on a web based auto service information system.

I looked at the fuse panel board under the hood and every slot is filled. I did see some fuses there refering to trailer lights and etc but that's about it. The owners manual doesn't reference anything neither.

rkw, thanks for the offer!

Trailer lights

I have to have the key on (or running) for the lights to work in my trailer with a 05 Sub.
You may know this but I thought I'd mention it just in case you didn't.

I know I had the running lights on but I do not remember if I had the truck running (or the key in the run position) or not. I just picked it up yesterday and have not had much time to fully troubleshoot. I was talking to another JD'er and they too mentioned that the vehicle should be running. I'll have more time to mess with it this weekend and was looking for input and advise to use at that time.

Thanks again everyone!

Harski, you need to add a fuse located under the hood on the drivers side in front of the firewall. Commonly called the "ice cube tray", it houses the big relays and other fuses.

Open the cover and look at the diagram to find stud #1 (upper left corner) and install a 40 amp green fuse.

If it is killing you to try the interior lights tonight, temporarily borrow the fuse from the Blower or ABS.

All of this is from a similar experience - Brought home my new Triton Prestige trailer a few years ago and was out playing with the interior lights and thought all was well. Tried the interior lights a few days later and they didn't work - ***? My new $14k trailer is broken!?!

Turns out the battery in the trailer had run down and since the fuse was missing under the hood, the battery in the trailer wasn't getting recharged and thus, no lights.

Stealth, you rock! Thanks alot! I did look under this panel and it sure seemed to me that every "slot" was full. I'll be sure to look more closely to the numbers and go from there.

Yea, I wasn't feeling to good when I got home the other night and come to find out the dang lights weren't working. The price you pay for one of these things everything better be working right! And for that matter my dealer is 250 miles plus away!

And as far as the controller, I bought the P3 unit based off of advice from another JD'er. I had the model in your link on another vehicle and was pleased with it. The only gripe I had with installed the P3 is find the connector under the dash! I didn't see the wire provided as the manual stated! After digging around a bit I finally found it in the "hidden" panel against the floor board. There sure don't make owners manuals for the more advance people do they? I guess that's what your local GM dealer is for they think, huh?

Anway, thanks again and have a great day!

On some trucks, GM put a dummy fuse in the Stud #1 spot giving the appearance that everything is there. Wonder what that dummy plug cost compared to the fuse?

Which reminds me, don't let marketing or bean counters make decisions on product design. =)

Stealth, I took a better look yesterday and yes it is a dummy plug as you've indicated. I guess I didn't look at all the fuses in detail and was a little premature in my assessment (that anxiety thing!)! So, I will be stopping by the parts store to pick one up today. By the way, my dealer hasn't called back to help me out as they've indicated so that must mean my check cleared! Dirty dogs.

Thanks again.

Boon, thanks for the advice. I just got the one today and I'll be sure to get another for the future 'unexpected and unknown what the H@&$ happened' moment (LOL).

Thanks again everyone!

Interior trailer lights

Well,...I spoke up too soon. The interior lights worked with my Suburban running with my R and R trailer but not my new Triton V nose. I put in the fuse as Stealthv suggested in the number 1 slot and it works,...thanks. I also heard that Chevys w/o the towing package may need a wire added. The tech info on this is absolutely great!
