Trailer running lights

Drove the trailer Friday night all lights working on the trailer, drove home yesterday, only the blinker and brake lights work. Running lights wouldn't work at all. Any ideas?

What are you driving?( I thought I rememebered honda on another post??) On a G.M. truck there are seperate fuses for the trailer loom circuit built right into the main fuse box. Not sure what you have but look there also

Just had the exact problem. Found a blown fuse for trailer running lights in the truck (2000 Silverado). Check for voltage at the tow rig to narrow down the problem. If you have voltage there it is most likely a broken wire on the trailer, or worn through and grounded.

I got a tester and I when I turn on the hazards I get the tester to light. However, when I put the tester right into the outlet I don't get anything on any of the wires.

Do you have sealed lights or replaceable bulbs? I just went through the same thing with the intermitent short blowing the fuse for running lights. Rewired and still popped the fuse. I was about ready to pull my hair out when I discovered water in one of my "sealed" running lights. Replaced light and wahla, no more blown fuses. Look close at the lenses with a flashlight, its hard to see and dosen't take much water to cause the intermitent short!! If you see any moisture at all on the inside of lens, replace it.

have you tried cleaning the connectors real good? I had the same problem. Brake lights, turn signals, blinkers all worked but not running lights. The problem was the wire connected to the pin was so corroided that it lost continuity. I just replaced the plug and all is well.

Ground wire will not cause a fuse to blow, the light just won't light up.

More than likely you have a Brown wire grounded out somewhere. I just went thru this. Thought it was the 7 way. Rewired a new one it. Worked for 1/2 trip and blew the fuse again. I found a brown wire worn thru and grounding out on the trailer.

BTW, your running light fuse may be under the hood. Mine is on my Dmax.

If you don't have power at the truck connector, don't waste time checking the trailer. If the trailer is hooked up, it might be getting ground through the coupler and allowing the tester to work with the hazards on.

If you unplug the trailer and aren't getting the tester to light at the connector, check the truck connector for a bad ground connection. Try putting the ground lead of the tester onto the truck frame (chrome bumper) and then checking for power in the connector. On my 03 Chev Silverado, the truck connector has a cable harness plugged into the front of it. Unplug that harness and take a look. If the ground terminal is all green, you found your problem. Clean all the contacts good and put some dielectric grease on them before replugging the harness.

Same problem here. Lights will work for months at a time then all of the sudden will start blowing fuses. Frustrating part is the trailer is less than a year old.
