Trails close for season?

John:
So trails close March 31 according to MSA per regular rules. Trails close early or open late usually determined by county's or clubs depending on snow cover temps etc.
My question is do the trails in the Kee stay open into April when the base is good and snowcover permits? Seems more trails on public land (Or corporate owned timber companies) there more so than in other areas.

Grooming may end, however, if conditions permit, there shouldn't be an issue with public land area's. Private property owners on the other hand may want it to end on their portions on March 31st. We have good cover yet, just have to know where you can ride it. Get at it while you can, if you have to truck & or trailer it to your riding area and your restaurant, it's all good.-Mezz

All grooming and other work, such as cleaning up blown down limbs/trees ends March 31 per DNR regulations. The trail from Houghton to Mass City is on state land and can thus be ridden all year long. Same goes for the trails from Hancock through Dollar Bay, Lake Linden and up to Calumet and then back down to Hancock on the upper trail.

All other trails run on private land. If one were to be coming up to ride this weekend, they would probably be OK in most trails north of the bridge even on Sunday, but if any gates are closed, please do not go around them. After March 31, our easements for snowmobile end on the private land. However, many of these same trails have easements for ATV. So there is a bit of a gray area. Snowmobile do not really do much damage at all to the trails, so most land companies are ok, main issue is insurance. The state does cover the land owners during the season, but I am not sure about any coverage in the off season.
