I just wanted to mention how smooth the trails are during the week. If you ever get a chance to ride during the week you will be in for a great surprise. Most people just see Fri through sun and that can be rough. If you haven't experienced mid week riding, give it a try, you may never want to ride weekends again. It is so flat right now, the groomer didn't even need to go out today.

Ah....the dream!!

We get to ride mid week OCCASIONALLY but not too often. Thursday is as lucky as we usually get. Thanks for pouring salt in my weekendy wound, tho?! :)

Lenny......shhhhhhh......during the week is the only time I ride (with the exception of the MSA Ride-in and this year, the J.D. Ride-in)!

Lenny you are correct but from the posts today sounds like a very busy weekend coming your way. Better to give them trail alternatives or 3 will be an eggbeater. Much better to go to less traveled areas if possible.

I heard 3 was still bad on Yesterday as I had friends checking out our back-pack route for mid next week.

Ahh, yes, mid week riding, miss it!! My buddy's son can't miss that much school, and I don't have that much vacation time anymore. Man i wish I could ride Tuesday Wed and Thursday again! LOL.

I have got spoiled rideing thru the week now i hate to ride weekends.Exspecialy after going up and rideing this last weekend plumb crazy. To many ride like they are the only ones on the trails when they know the traffic is heavy, just not a big enough play ground to play in this year, need more snow to get things spread out.Happy trails and please all be safe out there.

I know what you mean. I loose all interest in trails till I ride midweek than it's all new again, actually thrilling.

Normally I would agree, but I just got home from up there for 5 days, and it wasn't anything like "normal years". Monday morning 13 was groomed from Bergland up to where they stop and ungroomed from there to Rockland. It was so bad it looked like it hadn't been done in at least a day. And that was MLK day when traffic is up and you expect that main artery trail done. It's always been well maintained, but not that day. Maybe they had a groomer down. But that same day, the 13 loop was perfect yet it was being groomed when it didn't need it. Why do that when the other trail is horrible? I ran into the same type of thing today around Bergland and Silver City. Trails being groomed that didn't need it while others were left bumpy. There just wasn't the consistency I've grown accustomed to the past several years. I'm sure I just had bad timing but I have a sour taste in my mouth.

Trail 3 north of Bruce Crossing didn't get groomed for a couple of days, they had a groomer go off the trail into the swamp and had to take it to a heated barn to thaw out. Their back up and running and working on it.

We love riding mid-week on the trails, Bear Grooms Mon Tue and Wed, its great to go out on those days ;) just sayin' lol We occasionally ride the weekends when friends are up, but we take lots of short cuts to avoid the traffic

We saw that yesterday where it went off. It looked like it would have been a problem getting it out. It was a mess. We also ride usually Tues - Thurs. Our favorite day is Wed. Yesterday hardly any traffic and saw 3 groomers out. It was awesome.

I agree with during the week. This year we're going up on Friday nights or Saturday and leaving on Wednesday mornings. We' haven't rode the trails a lot this year yet so I'm going to see how it goes. Friday late afternoons and Satudays have been no good imo. I haven't tried riding on Sunday but I'm sure it's similar. We don't plan to ride a lot on Saturday or Sunday...but a little.

Same deal the 1st-3rd of January! North of the mosquito was great, smooth as glass, south of there to Rockland... not so good. It was like night and day. Whats up with that?

Two separate clubs. Superior Snowmobile Club handles from Toivola south and Keweenaw Trails Services handles things from Toivola north. So you get different grooming schedules and thus different conditions.

Plus, at that point in the season, the snow was pretty thin in the Houghton/Hancock area, so lots of folks were not continuing north much past Toivola or South Range, so more traffic south of the Mosquito could have been part of the problem.

I wonder why the groomer was over so far? Those swamps don't freeze at all where the sleds don't pack it down. I learned the hard way last year grooming. I was able to winch out in less than 20 minutes as I wasn't stuck too bad.

BTW, the Watersmeet area trails were the best we rode all week, although they were light in snow in some areas.
