travel lodge in houghton

can you get there on a sled ? if so is it a pain or not ? thanks for any help .

A lot of people do it but doesn't seem easy, that's the one reason I've stayed away from there. The other reason is that it just seems to me that it's too close to a road to park your sled overnight. If its the only place left to stay I'd probably try it. There are always sleds in the lot so it must work but looks to be a hassle. JMO

Another thought, if you've not been there before, it is close to the trail so not a "pain" as far as out of the way, just going a couple blocks on downtown city streets dodging cars and pedestrians.

I just called there last night. They said they block part of the parking lot of for snowmobiles. You park your trailer down under the bridge. It might be a little crappy when you head up off the trail but that's only about a block. Probably not to bad if they got snow. We are staying a night there in February while passing through on the sleds.Good location if you want to park the sleds and walk to restaurants etc at night. If I were driving truck and trailer there and leaving by bridge that would bother me. I like to keep an eye on my stuff. I had a sled stolen at the Best western Franklin square on year. That sucked and since I like to be able to see my stuff at night. The super 8 in Houghton is not bad either.

I've stayed there a few times when we had larger groups. Last few hundred feet are up a side street from the trail. When they are getting snow, it's pretty much a non-issue, as that side street is not busy. Even when it's bare pavement, it's not that bad so long as you are smart about pointing your sled which direction you'd like to go before hitting the street. Never had an issue with sleds sitting in that lot, either.

Even though the property is a bit older and not as nice as the Ramada, the people there have always been very friendly. It's also nice to have bars & restaurants just across the street. ;)
