Trip to UP to take pictures

I am crazy about photography, and I am going to UP at the end of February for 3 days (weekend and Friday or Monday attached) to take pictures. The end of February is because at that time all ice formations are already done. I am going to the Eben ice caves, Ice curtains at the Sand point Road (Munising). If it is possible, to cross Munising bay to Grand Island (using cross country skies or snowshoes) - I was told that there were very beautiful ice caves, even better than the Eben ones. If I have time, to drive to Grand Marais and White Fish point (if the roads are drivable). Unfortunately, I don't have the snowmobile, thus I can rely only on a car and myself. If someone interested to join, let me know.
Shortly about myself. My name is Vladimir Vorobeychik, I live in Southfield, MI, 61 years old.

If you like ice formations, then be sure to also stop by the Upper Tahquamenon Falls....you have to hike a short distance to get to them, but will be well worth it. They are on the way to Whitefish Point (if you go via Newberry).

I would be VERY carefull about crossing the ice over to Grand Island...especially by yourself. It can be very dangerous (and of about a week ago, was all still open water).

Another of my favorite winter hikes is to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain...just a couple of miles north of Marquette. It is a short (30-45 minutes), but fairly steep hike to the top. The view from the top is a 360 dgree view of Lake Superior and the "mountains" and rugged terrain to the north. There are also some ice formations along the way.

I would not bother with Grand Marais...although it is very beautiful in summer, the places you can drive in the winter are pretty limited (without a snowmobile!).

Thank you for the advice. I am with full love with UP, I drive 2-3 times a year to that area. I already was in winter 3 times there. If it is interesting, you can take a look at my winter pictures: http://altair49.livejournal.com/1859.html, pictures from #28 are taken at Tahquamanon fall (don't pay attention to the text, it is in Russian).
I never heard about Sugarloaf Mountain, special thanks for that. I'll go to that place.
About crossing over the ice to Grand Island. I know that it is very dangerous; I am going to find out the ice condition both on the internet and at the Info center in Munising right before doing that. I really hope that winter will be cold enough to cover the bay with the solid ice.

No offense, but you speak funny!

I detect an accent of some sort...south of France, Austrailian....or perhaps, Ukrainian.

Welcome to John Dee ....snowmobiler's meeting place--- and I hope that isn't a browny camera you're carrying!:)

As already posted, that area you are planning on getting to by skis, is a long way out, and dangerous...unless you hit it just right. Find a local in Munising who knows the ice, owns a couple snowmobiles, and is willing to show you the way...if it is safe to get there. It will be well worth the cost to have a guide.....and no doubt some pretty photo ops.

Make sure your life insurance is paid up and somewhere your wife can find it handy.

I know my English is jerky, but I came here at age of 42 without any knowledge of English.
I insured not only my life, but also got life insurance for my camera. :)

Wow, those are awesome pics! You are right, the UP is really pretty in the winter. I bet it is fun just trying to get to those locations. Thanks for showing your pictures.

Great pictures. Bond falls is also beautiful in the winter. That would be another great place to get some great photos.

Thank you very much.
Bond falls are great both in summer and winter. I've been there also, the link I gave is for old pictures. But in winter there is nothing to do at Bond falls without shoe spikes, even with them it is quite dangerous to climb the ice. Here is the picture of the Bond falls in winter:
