Troubleshootiing ignition on Ski-Doo Legend

I am new to skidoos, and new to wrenching them, but want to learn.

THE PROBLEM: the 550f Legend started fine most of the summer. I would idle it and turn it off. I suspect the battery ran down and wouldn't turn over the engine. So I used the rope pull to start it. For a week I started it manually. Then one day I pulled the battery out to recharge it. While the battery was out, I started it with the rope pull. Started right up, no problem. The next day I put the recharged battery back in. Engine would not turn over, wouldn't click. So I tried to start with the rope pull. The engine rolled over just fine, even lights up the headlight, but will NOT start.

I pulled the main battery fuse (30 amps) that is just above the battery. It's fine.

Seems like it should be a fuse problem, or something like that, but I can't find any other fuses to check.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Check for Spark, that will explain alot.

The Gas may have evaporated over the Summer also, and its out of Gas.

Also I would Load Test the Battery, it sounds like its shot.

Check your kill switch, often times a culprit. Other than that, as longtrack said, the battery is probably shot.-Mezz

November 11, 2013, Lake Linden, MI, went for a quick ride on the Legend on my land. Not a lot of snow, but there was an inch. Stayed in the grassy fields.

Here's what the problem was with the Legend: it was a combination between corroded battery cables and a battery that had 11 volts of charge. Elsewhere I read that the battery had to be "fully" charged for the starter to work. After cleaning the terminals, and charging the battery to 12.8 volts, it fired right up.

Thanks for the help troubleshooting guys.
