i just boughta 09 polaris turbo dragon. when you are hard on the throttle and let off it back fires 2-3 times. not loud but its a quiet or faint backfire. also what is the operating temp sopoost to be? sled runs at 175 degrees with good trail conditions(plenty of loose snow on top). kinda nervous. its under warrenty but want to know if normal before i make the trip in to get it fixed

Are you sure you just aren't hearing the waste gate??? It will make a a noise like air releasing when you let off the throttle. Mine runs around 145 to 150 going down the trail.

nop i hear the turbo release everytime i let off. this is when your going 60 mph(example) and let off and coming to a stop. if i putz around it dont do it but when we are crankin it does it all the time when you let off to come to a corner or stop sign, etc. i wish it ran at 145-150. now im nervous

Remember, its a 4-stroke. They handle higher temps better than 2-strokes. Not saying its right, but I wouldnt be to nervous about the temps. Just go get it checked out for the backfire, and let them know about the temps.

Prolly a stupid reflash for that sled too, just like all of Polaris' other sleds. I know they had some issues with the first 2 years of 4-strokes, but it was fairly minor stuff, reflashes and such. Aint no snow, so go get that sucker checked out. What dealer you going to?

brett,
john hartwigs in creek. i took it there lastnight. its kinda nervous when your sled say 180 when you have to wait at a stop sign to cross roads. atleast its in good hands now. i also plan on getting the hot air eliminators thru slp. lot of heat onder hood

Mike I just did a little digging and it sounds like this is a fairly common thing for the 4-strokes. I read that there is a flash that helps the issue, but I havent checked out the flash and it sounds like it might not be a factory flash though, which would void warranty. Ill check into that further. Everyone that I read that complained about it, said it happens after a hard throttle pull. Which would lead me to believe that it might actually be "turbo barking" and not an actually backfire. Turbo barking is quite common on juiced up diesel trucks. My last truck did it alot. It never hurt anything, but sounded like crap. Im not exactly certain what causes it, but it only happens when you do a hard pull, then abruptly get out of the throttle.

Hartwigs is a good dealer, but they arent real fond of aftermarket stuff. Pipes, programmers, stuff like that. They will take care of you.

my 08 backfires when I let off after hard acceleration too.was told the o6 and 07's got the turbo red hot sometimes so in 08 they ran more gas through em to cool em off.probly why mine gets 13mpg and my buddy gets 17 with his 06.
