Turn Signal Keeps Clicking

The turn signal in my wifes 2000 Chevy Venture keeps clicking while the signal is not being used. Turn them on and it works fine and keeps a steady pattern of clicks. But after the lever resets after turning the corner or turning the signal off, it keeps clicking as if the turn signal is still on. The blinkers don't come on, but it keeps clicking.

The signal lights in front and back work correctly. My hazards work correctly. I can't figure this problem out and i want to fix it without paying alot of money.

Please help. I don't want to keep listening to my wife who keeps listening to the click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click every time she drives the van.

I'm thinking it's the turn signal relay, but I need a second opinion.

Thanks
Skutr

playing cards and a clothes pin in the spokes will make that sound also. find the noise and drive a screwdriver thru it. actually locate the relay and disconect it (unplug) signals will stop working but if the clicking also stops then it is the relay. Oh better do it quick, you got her driving an eleven year old Venture. She may want new because of this issue. My wife would.

she's already mentioned that she really misses our old Explorer and wouldn't mind getting another one.

I had the same problem with my 99 Suburban. Since I'm half-deaf I couldn't even hear it but it drove my wife crazy. It was the "smart switch", which on that vehicle was a nice chunk of change but it solved the problem.

This apparently is a very common problem. My 99 Blazer has been doing this forever. I don't drive it enough to take the time to fix it.

If you do you own repairs, you may be able to save some $$ with the information located here.

Wow, that guide is thorough but shows alot to do to get rid of a clicking sound.

What I don't understand is that if the relay is going, why the lights aren't flashing along with it???

What about hunting for a more quiet relay to replace it with? If you don't hear it then no problems, right?

It may seem like alot to do but it is no more work than replacing the entire multiswitch which is the only other solution to the problem.

The problem is not with the relay but the multifunction switch. Apparently the lubricant used by the factory is somewhat conductive and over time causes these "phantom" relay actions.

It's the multiswitch...had a 1998 Blazer that had to be changed out, got one from a junk yard for 25 bucks. Kinda of a pain to change, have to pull the steering wheel and the airbag. Careful!!
