In going through some of my Dad’s things recently, my Mom came across this U.P. Dollar. I’m hoping to get a little more background information if anyone has some. From what I have learned from online searches, this is not true currency. It’s considered a municipal token that was manufactured for a special occasion. There is no date on the coin itself, but my research states it was manufactured in 1989. The coin is cool enough to show off, but I’d sure like to know more of the background. It’s really funny that the design on the back is a map of Michigan, with the U.P. being much larger than downstate. Anyone familiar with this coin and its origin?
