After our horrible melt down and wind damage...things have settled down abit........as I mentioned earlier, we lost alot of snow cover earlier this week in the northwoods....IMO trails are not rideable at this point...and many clubs are out re-clearing trails from fallen trees, and debris from our storms (many people in Oneida and Vilas county still don't have power)....I'm awaiting a report on the trouble areas (where more brushing will have to take place)...it's very scattered, with some areas hit harder than others...the clubs are still accessing the damage, and assigning crews to clear problem areas.....also...some clubs are still dealing with problem wet areas....the GOOD NEWS is... with the melt down and colder weather the clubs should be able to pack some of these wet areas, and they will freeze....the lakes were a mess, with lots of slush, and wet areas...but with the colder weather, things are tightening up again, and we are making good ice, and should continue to build ice the next week to 10 days....with any luck these lakes might be rideable before new years...something we haven't been able to do for a few years now.
All we need now is more snow......currently we got a dusting over night, and are expecting an inch or so Tuesday night....we'll have to watch the end of next week, one of our local weather guys thinks we may have a better chance of accumulating snow on Xmas eve....I would think that if we get 3 to 6 or 4 to 8 inches the trails would be ready to roll...and with any luck some of the lakes may be ready to go by then as well...so keep your fingers crossed and do that snow dance.
