Upright freezer issues

I have a whirlpool upright freezer that I got in 2002. I noticed it is forming large ice forms at the bottom of the freezer. Its a commercial freezer thats suppose to be a frost free and has automatic defrosting. I did completely thaw the entier freezer and let it sit open for a day, in less than a week the same thing is happened. Any Ideas on whats going on?

I think you have to check to make sure the drain line is clear and open. Just shutting the freezer and opening the door dosn't mean the drain line has defrosted if it is frozen solid.

Check to make sure the mullion heater is working, if it is not working cold air from outside the case can get in and form condensation which will freeze.

I would guess that it is either the defrost timer (most likely) or the heaters. Both can go bad. You would have to find the timer on the freezer probably somewhere down low, but you can google that model and the location. The timer can be manually spun with a small straight blade screwdriver. If the freezer is running and you spin to defrost mode, it will shut off. Test the heaters for power with a multi meter. The heaters will be located along the evap coil. If you have power, the heaters may be the problem, but if no power, the timer is likely bad. It's been a while since I have looked at one but there should be a schematic on the freezer someplace. If you follow the diagram to just before the heaters you should be able to see what heats them up. Also there will be a resistance value that you can read with a meter to check the heaters. Some older models would give the value + or - 10% to test, but not sure on newer ones.
