using to much gas

Was up north , sled was using way more gas than normal. Plus sled didn't sound or respond like it did a few weeks ago. 04 700xc 7500 miles. My buddy was on my 98 xc and usually get same mileage. I was putting in 9 gal of gas the 98 6 gal. I cleaned carbs at the beginning of the season. I should clean again and see if I sucked dirt or something in form tank. I checked choke cable just to make sure not stuck open. Need to do a compression test. cleaned power vales with new diagram. Anything else I should look at that I am missing. also it did seem better when the rpm was up around 5 to 6 g. and around 40 plus seem more have more snap.

Check float bowl drain hose

Recently cleaned the carbs on similar model and age Polaris XC snowmobile and found the clear red hoses attached to the carb float bowl drain plugs had decayed/deteriorated to the point of leaking fuel. The hoses crumbled to the touch but held together enough to still run fine until applying full throttle for a period of time and then it would starve for fuel. Meanwhile it was dripping fuel while in use but was not noticed when not in use due to the owners practice of shutting the fuel value when not in use.

Replaced the clear red hoses attached to the carb float bowl drain plug and cleaned the carbs and its as good as new.

Had the same issue this weekend, noticed it right away, within a mile or two, when it should have been warmed up. Choke cable was not retracting as far as it should have been. Dumped some ISO heat in the tank (Quarter bottle or so), continued to ride, and after about another mile or so, cleared right up. Ran good the rest of the weekend.

I'm assuming a little moisture caused the choke to stay stuck open after a stop. Not sure that is your issue, but was mine.

Yeah I look at that and just replace! I Looked them over when I cleaned them didn't seem to dry ! but never know! I will get new bowl gaskets as well.
Thanks

I did put some sea foam in at one stop seemed a little better.

can you tell me more , what to look for? thanks

Usually the sled will still run fine with a bad needle/seat, it will just let the gas flow into the motor when its not running. But, I suppose if they are really bad, more gas than designed could flow, but that would be progressive, not just all of a sudden.

Will seafoam eat moisture like ISO?

Sea Foam® Motor Treatment for Gas and Diesel Engines is a 100% pure petroleum product that works instantly to clean deposits from internal engine parts and remove moisture from oil crankcases and fuel tanks. As a fuel system additive, Sea Foam® motor treatment will clean carburetors, fuel injectors, clean carbon, gum and varnish deposits, add lubricity to fuel, stabilize fuel and control moisture. As an oil system additive, Sea Foam® motor treatment controls moisture, gum, varnish and residue deposits.

guy in our group had put in some new foam to keep snow out of the air box. The foam was to restrictive and there was not enough air. Sled ran poorly and was all blubbery. took out some of the foam and it ran better.

just want you to be aware=if you read the msds sheet on sea foam,it contains 10-20% IPA(isopropyl alcohol)so I wouldn't claim it's 100% petroleum. I didn't bring this up to say "I told you so",just want to make people aware of this. I use seafoam,but only if I'm using the fuel in short order and to "clean things up" ,not sitting for storage ect.. if you are running ethynol,and you use sea foam=now you just added more alcohol. some people will claim that their sled( or whatever engine)runs better,that could be the case,but that's because many machines are calibrated richer out of the box and ANY amount of alcohol equals a leaner burn. this isn't just my opinion,this has been brought to our attention at service school in the marine industry.
