Good news... UTVs are now legal on the Iron County, WI trail system... This includes Hurley, Mercer, Iron Belt, & Saxon, WI... The county board passed the UTV ordinance and UTVs are now legal on the trails under the same set of laws and rules governing ATVs... All that is needed to ride is a trail permit or 2 year registration...

The Iron County, WI trail system will officially open for the season on May 3rd...

so if we already own a utv do we just buy a trail sticker or as a resident do we have to register the machine. if you need to register it are they going to try and make you pay taxes on it again and who has the utv registration forms?

You can just purchase a trail sticker if you would like. It is cheaper to register machines... If you have the original receipt showing you have paid sales tax, you will not be charged tax. The registration forms are found on the WiDNR website. I also know the Hurley Chamber of Commerce carries them. I'm still attempting to find out for sure if they can be registered. The chamber informed me that they can be, but I do know they couldn't be registered before because they were basically considered "farm equipment".

New news from the WI DNR...All UTVs must be registered with the state of WI, regardless of residency... All residents and non-residents can find the registration forms at the DNR's website... I believe 2 yr registration costs $30
