very thirsty indy lite

I have a indy lite that will go through a tank of gas in about 50 miles. The choke is adjusted and the belt looks good. the motor runs good and has good power. It does not foul out plugs.

It has an 8 gallon tank & my son gets about 15 mpg. I get about 10 - 12 mpg when I ride it, but I'm 180 lbs and a little harder on the throttle.

Check the impulse line going to the fuel pump. Some times the diaphrams in the fuel pump leak directly into the impulse line and dump fuel directly into the crankcase.

WOW! You have problems somewhere. 340 indy lites where gas & oil misers. Poo should bring them back with decent suspension for cheap entry level.

could the secondary clutch need some work? weak spring or just wore out. If the sled has a 8 gallon tank and we drove it 50 miles that's only 6.25 miles per gallon.

thats just plain nasty for that machine,,,, we had a 2 up and we never got less than 20 mpg good lil sled,,, yes they should still have it with a tad better suspension

Buddy had a black Indy not sure of model or year but it had a 340 liquid & that sled kept up with 488s. Poo 340 air or liquid was a sweet engine that just ran & ran mile after mile totally bullet proof. Bring it back please.

Hank: I don't know what the problem but is but NOT jetting. You can't see leaks , no gas in airbox, no gas in jugs or crank, floats not stuck. Heck 340 gas useage 8 -10 gallons in 50 miles it has to be going somewhere. Since your engine runs good topping out about 70mph, idles good tells me something minor & basic as a leak in tank or gas line. Put sled on stand & rev up & look for leaks. Your clutch might be shot but you would not have good performance if that was the problem. I'm betting on a gas leak since engine runs good & I would find it quickly before you burn down sled like in fire.
