video camera for snowmobiling

I am strongly considering purchasing a new video camera after Christmas. Wondering what some suggestions were out there for buying a camera that is durable and will be weather proof in cold temps. Was considering a helmet cam as well, didn't know if there was such thing as an all purpose camera that you could mount on a helmet, or make it portable and use hand held. Any info or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

hello I have a MOTO COM DSR 100 helmet lipstick cam .. you can basicly mount the lipstick cam anywhere I have mine set up for velcroing to the right side of my helmet . it has a bunch of cables i run down my jacket to the monator it also has a mic. the monator has a game set up a mp3 player and a few other features i down load it to cdr cd;s i bought a special burner for that . you can also download it to a computer . it works great and it uses a 2 gig card it gets about 3 hrs of taping if you keep the monator warm thus keeping it next to your body . it also uses a battery set up or lighter plug in .. there are several cams out there do your reserch before you buy some work great some are pure junk last about 15 min .

Helmut Cam

This summer I got the Epic Stealth Cam. Used it fishing,Motorcycle riding and hiking. Great picture and sound. Camera is about the size a D battery. Comes with a waterproof case. Easy button operation. Can't wait to try it on the sled. Not sure of battery life in the cold though.

I too am interested in these Cams. I'm not very techie, so the one or two button models would be best for me. I checked the sites listed, but am wondering about the cold also. Has anyone used these riding? My friend used his regular vidio cam, put it in his pocket, and lost the battery pack. Thought it was gone, then it fell out of his snow suit when he took it off at the end of the day. So missed some really great pics, cause he didn't think he had his battery with him. Kind of funny tho. So if someone has tried these two cams listed in the winter, please let me know the results. Thanks

I have the Samsung Sportcam. I just got it and am working out the bugs. I just used it in the Snowies and the cold does indeed affect the batteries, so I used handwarmers to keep it warm. This is the same camera that Firecatguy uses and he has made some great videos with it.

Can anyone tell me what they are using for movie making programs? Does the camera it's self come with software, or are you guys using windows movie maker or something? I'm new to all this so just wondering how the production part gets put together after the footage is captured?

I can vouch for the VHoldr coming with its own, pretty decent, software for editing. I'm now interested in the Tachyon XC. My purchase decision will be almost entirely on if the camera can record while on BUS power. (DC from the sled)
