Rode a little bit on Thursday and then again today. 70W, to 7 N, 10 E. Up to Hillside, halfway to St. Germain, starting about 5 miles west of ER, about a 3-4 inch base. When you get a bit farther north toward Hillside the snow is a bit deeper, but there's rocks clanking off your carbides and trails are hammered. ER did the best they could last night with limited snow, so hats off to them, but we need snow. I went half way to St. on 70W, where it splits from 7N. Hitting rocks for a couple of miles, I turned back. Don't need it right now. My sleds are both running fine and started on 3rd pull, both Pro-R 6 and Pro-S 8, after sitting for 6+ months. Damn good sleds but they were stored right last spring. Sled motors love this cold weather, running 123-127, just perfect, but we need snow so I'll be back in 2-3 weeks. It's been 15-27 below every night for a week, so we got good base, nice and frozen. Little bit of snow last couple of days, but nothing significant, maybe 1-2 inches max. Every little bit helps but we need 6-8 and we'll be in business. Lake effect right now, just as I put my sled away - figures, but very light.

Has anyone rode Vilas area recently? We are heading up in a week or so and looking for info on conditions. Thanks in advance.

had 1" dusting yesterday,....cold temps have kept the base hard and smooth but trails are thin and need fresh snow for lube....you will find better riding north and west of StG and Arb, in Iron Cty or U.P..........here all town trails are pretty snirty and burned down.......there is riding but carbides will scrape and rocks to dodge,...... lakes are frozen, and marked, ride early, by noon traffic takes its toll.........groomers have been doing a great job keeping up as best they can....ER, StG, Sayner, and Arb .........wish I had better news but bottom line, we could use 4-6 in fresh ......

we were in Land o lakes over new years With my buddies staying t Bents camp and we stayed at Jays resort near Watersmeet in Mi. Friday we road west towards Wakefield Michigan and had thin but ride able trails. Saturday we went towards Watersmeet and the trails we thin as ****. wore out a brand new set of carbides to the Skis in one day. Sunday we trailered to Bergland bay bar and started to head towards Greenland, trails were
choppy as we went up 13 and when we crossed the intersection at I think 102 north to 12 and 13 we turned around on 13 as it was rough as ****, went up to 12 and over to White pine, ( trails were Great all the way) then north to Silver city. We were going to go up to Lake of the clouds but ran out of time to make our New Years eve reservation back at Bents camp at 7 and proceeded down 11 back towards lake Gogibic, . 11 was like a super highway all the way to the connector that took us to the Hoop. took the lake from the hoop back to BBB and trailered back to Watersmeet. we should have gone further north by trailer to Grenland if we had more time and gone north.
