Vilas or Iron County

So I've been riding in Vilas Co. and the UP for the last 18 years. Im considering spending a short week in Iron Co. Is there enough trail there to keep you busy for 600-700 miles? It looks like a good mess of trails, any guess on the mileage riding from Turtle Flambeau to Hurley? Are the gas stops dependable without going to Hurley? Any good places for 3-4 guys to stay towards the Mercer area? Thanks!!

24 hour pay at pump on trail in Gile BP station. Also 24 hour pay at pump at Frontier Bar and gas station. You do not need to go to Hurley for gas. Several bars also have gas in the area. I suggest heading up to saxon harbor and circling back down to ironwood if you have never done.

I agree that is a great loop. Depending on the miles you like to ride looks like all should be good. West of Minocqua and Mercer is good riding with plenty of stops.

X3 on the Saxon Harbor loop. Did it years ago, great scenic views. Would love to do again someday. Snow squall while we were there. Epic!

Which way do you like to run that loop?
I like to ride from Hurley to The Frontier Bar (East to West in WI) then ride (West to East into MI) from The Frontier to Ironwood, MI.

that loop is two trail passes! keep looking over your left shoulder beyond the river crossing for the superior falls parking and overlook, it's worth a stop.

It was about 25 yrs ago. I remember we road out of Mercer. Yes today you would need 2 passes, but this was before trail passes. LOL.
