Waconia and the Wish List

Hopefully some of you made it out to Waconia today. If you haven’t been there, you really owe it to yourself to make the trip at least once. Even if you think you’re not a vintage fan, you might be by the time you leave. The sleds are everywhere and unlike the summer shows, people are riding them. You can just stand, watch, and listen.

My real mission was to do some power swap shopping and it came out pretty well – crossed 9 of the 13 items off my list. Might have done better if I hadn’t spent so much time admiring sleds and rearranging my wish list. Chaparral is still in the top spot but I have to say John Deere has moved into the number two slot. Love those Cyclones! Also saw a Winnipeg 500 Liquidator. My drool froze.

I was a little pressed for time and had to leave earlier than I would have normally but I knew Snoluver1 was already rolling west and I can’t let him beat me to the snow. Still, I got some good parts, a T-shirt, and a pork chop feed. Definitely a good day.

The Weather at Waconia was perfect for sledding - about 1 degree with a 25 mph wind. Better than the 55 degrees I hit just outside Rapid City. That just feels weird.

Here’s a few shots that kind of capture the day.

TX Row – They’re here every year.

Thanks for all the pics, Kelly. One of these years I just have to get there for a day.

Hey, thanks for the pictures Kelly. A bit of a mystery here as I've included pictures of the same sled, the 71 433 that Trapp rode in the Championship. These pics were taken at the Hall of Fame in St Germaine a couple of years ago and I notice the graphics/advertising on the hood are different. At Waconia there is a Champion Sticker on the lower front, in St Germaine it's something else that I can't quite make out. Any thoughts?

Regardless, it looks like a fun time and I'd like to make it some day. Thanks for sharing!

Gary

Gary, I have no clues that would solve the mystery, unless this was just one of a number of sleds he raced. It looks to be owned by a private party. I'm sure they bring in all the featured model show sleds from various contributors.

It's always fun to see which sled will be the next featured sled.

The "Free Take One": pretty funny.

Snow permitting, think I might try to ride the “Waconia or Bust Leaf Spring Expedition" (WOBLE) next year. It's a 70 mile round trip ride from Prior Lake to Waconia. Talked to one of the riders and he said they had about 50 sleds in it this year. It was definitely a brisk ride with the temps and the wind.
