Wakefield Area

I came up from SE WI yesterday hoping to do some riding this weekend. As of last night, Trail 8 out of Wakefield going east was pushed down, but not groomed. Once we hit the changeover into the Bergland area on Trail 8, it was really bad. Lots of water, mud, not groomed, etc. I would absolutely avoid Trail 8 between Wakefield and Bergland until better conditions. There is plenty of snow here, just need groomers to pack it all down. I'm leery to head back out and try again riding till it gets better

A good friend of mine has a place near mercer and is an avid snowmobiler and even he was shocked that they opened trails, with the snow cover it is just going to take longer to freeze what is underneath and with everyone chopping at the bit, don't imagine they will be open for long.

I can only hope it is better than last year. The groomers out of Lake Gogebic weren't able to groom trail 8 due to wet areas and this was when were were up last year after january 1st.
Toss in the period of prior days had sub zero temps and it was still a no go. My wife and I had to ride from our storage unit from Wakefield to Bergland, Timberline Sports to deal with getting a new battery for the our Ski -Doo 900 ace.

It was total misery. We were going so slow a State trooper stopped my wife at an intersection and asked if she was looking for something and was ok.

TsarMyron, thanks for the update.
It is a bummer that section is getting worse. It is getting harder for them to get it fixed. We used to come up early in the season and ride through there all the time. There are a few spots with pretty deep running water and these wet seasons have made them worse. Not much of a chance to see them freeze without some extra work early in the season. I wish I knew of a solution that would help. Bridges are not an option because of topography and cost. I have seen them use straw, etc. for the smaller holes. Those big holes need more help for a viable solution.
