Walleye Lodge?

Coming up north the first weekend of Feb. and called a few places to try and get a room but most are booked. I got a room at the Walleye Lodge and was wondering what kind of place to expect? I really only care for a clean room to sleep in. Any opinions??

I have stayed there a bunch of times. For as much time as we spend in our room it is perfect. There are nicer places around, but you have access to a bunch of trails right out their door. Some will say it isn't that clean but I have never had a complaint about it. I would go back in a second, but all we do is sleep there, we don't hang out there. We leave at 8 a.m and don't get home till at least midnight, sometimes later. Personally I think it is a great place to stay and ride.

Maple Ridge is nice and clean, outside of Bergland off the lake on feeder trail and next to DOO dealer. This is a lot nicer than the Walleye Lodge IMO.

Just make sure you take your showers at night. We stayed there 3 weeks ago and never had hot water in the morning.

Also be quiet when you come back that late at night. Walls are thin and other rooms can hear you really easy....

Just my 2 cents,

It is not the nicest place on the lake but reasonably priced. I always felt it was clean. It is very dated but I would not hesitate to stay their again if that was what was available and I was looking to keep costs down.

Well, I'm breaking my mother's rule but you did ask... I stayed there a little over 10 years ago and by looking at their website, I see that things have probably changed for the better. I experienced the thin walls - apparently the wives next door did not appreciate the guys returning from the mens run at 2am. At the time I stayed there, they advertised a hot tub and sauna - lets just say that the hot tub was half filled w/Lake Gogebic water and the sauna never got hot and was disgustingly dirty. We didn't experience it but I saw others that were either iced in or out of their room because the patio doors froze shut. A small bottle torch took care of that and it appears that they have installed regular entry style doors next to the patio doors. Our group rode a lot more that trip instead of hanging out in the room also. I do not remember the room not being clean and I'm sure that I would remember that. At that time, I do recall being amazed at how reasonable the rates were. Bottom line - I would stay there again but I would not bring the wife.

Not sure if Smitty & Dee still own/run The Walleye, but they are good people! Like others have said, not high end accomodations, but a great location, clean rooms, cool owners and reasonable rates.

They've also got a variety of different sized rooms, which works well in accomodating mixed groups.

Stayed there 8 years ago and will never go back. The room was dirty, no hot water morning or night, paper thin walls and were treated very rude by Schmitty and his wife. We were even lied to about our room charges and the trails that were supposed to be groomed that were not. I avoid the place like the plaque. I know others have had similar issues.

I recommend going somewhere else.

Come on guys, Ive stayed there many times over the years, its not that bad. Besides I believe new owners took it over this year. Give the new folks a chance. (Just be sure you take your showers in the evening:).

I guess if you are the snooty type who needs room service and hot tubs, I would say go somewhere else. If you ride from 7 am to midnight, this place is perfect. It is warm, the parking is good, and it is right off the highway. The price is right, it is centrally located, and everyone who stays there is usually a hardcore sledder. What is so bad about that?

Wow! I guess people can be scared of anything, but I never heard of them being afraid of plaques.?.?.? Unless you're a dentist, maybe. HAHA

I have stayed there many times over the years. nothing fancy but good location if your looking for that area. We called it the "Paper Door" LOL. As long as your not a home builder or a wood worker the facility wont bother you. I.E. the building inspector hasn't been there for the last few remodels. you guys know what Im talking about. have fun.

The last time I stayed there we were in a room that had a fire place (never used it). The room below us also had a fire place. The guys in the room below us used ther fire place. My buds and I were woke up at 330 in the morning by DEE (resort owner). Seems that the chimney was blocked and our room was compleetly full of smoke. Let's just say it was so bad that she was beyond relieved that we were alive. They didn't have a working smoke alarm. We could not believe that this could happen at a motel. We moved to a room that was cold a heck. Oh yes the heat was out. After leaving we decided that it is a great location but not worth risking not coming home to our familys. Never stopped there again. Just drive on by and laugh at all the trucks that are parked in the lot. So if you have never woke up in a room so full of smoke that you can't see the other side. Stay at the walleye. You just might find that experience. Good people but super dangerous. Good luck.
