Ok, I'm a pretty good natured, give both sides a fair say kind of guy. In fact many people will say they rarely see me get upset or outspoken, but.....

Doesn't the Government have better things to do than give the nation spotlight to some special interest group that just looks for fights to pick? This football team has been around for 82 years, provides revenue and jobs to an entire area and has been minding their own business. Get off it and leave them along.

And while we're at it, bring back Chief Illniwick!

I like the skins logo been around a long long time ....always think about George Allen & the over the hill gang...George didn't like rookies or their mistakes & had a winning record with the old retread players. Leave the skins alone but don't think they will seems to be heating up lately.

This kind of thing has been happening in all levels of sports lately, from city leagues to high school & now to professional. 80 plus years & this hasn't been an issue. Quite frankly, I don't see the Redskins name as being derogatory, I see it as an honor. Next on the list, the Blackhawks? Vikings? Buccaneer's? Yankee's? Braves? Indians? Pirates? Come on really? Next it will be animal rights activists bitching about all those teams with animal names, Lions, Tigers, & Bears, OH MY!-Mezz

It's just another example of how messed up our country has become, and it gets worse every day. :( What has our country become when they start pulling trademarks and patents on businesses they don't agree with? That's what our government did yesterday to the Redskins. Pulled 6 trademarks and patents from them.

The political correctness people win again. Amazing how the squeaky wheel continues to get the grease in this country. So glad our government (both sides, you know who you are) is concentrating on important issues. NOT!

-gas prices at or near all time high
-beef prices at all time high
-pork prices at all time high
-fish and seafood prices at all time high
-electricity rates at or near all time high

...on and on. Good thing our government tells us there is no inflation. Could you image how bad things would be if there was inflation? Is it too late to start over? I just finished watching the HBO series John Adams, our politicians obviously have forgotten what our country was founded on:

Here is an email sent to Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune after an article he published concerning a name change for the Washington Redskins.

Dear Mr. Page...

I always love your articles. and I generally agree with them. I would suggest, as in an email I received, they change the name to the "Foreskins" to better represent their community, paying tribute to the **** heads in Congress.

Here are some other politically correctness to consider: I agree with our Native American population. I am highly insulted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins. One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as fine warriors, but nay, nay. We must be careful not to offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward. Let's ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians. If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns.

The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of militant Blacks from the 60's alive. Gone. It's offensive to us white folk.

The New York Yankees offend the Southern population. Do you see a team named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for any reference to that tragic war that cost this country so many young men's lives.

I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion among our sports team names. Totally inappropriate to have the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres.

Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged. We are talking about the horrible Oakland Raiders, the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Pirates!

Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our children. The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible fighting or even spending habits. Wrong message to our children.

The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a growing childhood epidemic. Wrong message to our children.

The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates . Wrong message to our children.

The Milwaukee Brewers---well that goes without saying . . . Wrong message to our children.

So, there you go. We need to support any legislation that comes out to rectify this travesty, because the government will likely become involved with this issue, as they should. Just the kind of thing the do-nothing congress loves . . .

As a die hard Oregon State fan, my wife and I, with all of this in mind, it might also make some sense to change the name of the Oregon State women's athletic teams to something other than "the Beavers."

Guess the only thing we can keep are the Cubs and the Bears

We lost the Fighting Sioux name two years ago and still don't have a new nickname, just North Dakota, I don't think it changed any Native Americans way of life yet either.
